Position Summary

The Senior Director - Engineering Operations partners with the Executive Director of Software Development Engineering to strengthen the operational effectiveness of a large claims and payment engineering organization. The role is accountable for workforce planning, operational governance, financial oversight, portfolio reporting, leadership communications, and organizational planning activities that enable effective management of engineering delivery and organizational performance.

This position serves as a central coordination point across engineering leaders, finance, HR, PMO, product, and business stakeholders to drive consistency, transparency, and accountability. The role establishes and manages the operational processes, reporting structures, planning activities, and governance mechanisms required to support a large engineering organization consisting of more than 500 employees, contractors, and strategic partners.

The role is responsible for developing the management systems, governance processes, reporting frameworks, and operating rhythms that enable leaders to effectively manage organizational performance, delivery outcomes, and strategic initiatives. As the Engineering Operations function matures, this role may evolve to lead dedicated operational resources responsible for governance, planning, analytics, communications, and portfolio support functions

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in technology operations, engineering operations, PMO, portfolio management, business operations, organizational effectiveness, or similar roles supporting complex organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing governance processes, operating models, reporting frameworks, and organizational management systems.
  • Experience with workforce planning, organizational design, staffing analysis, contractor strategy, and resource forecasting.
  • Experience developing and managing organizational KPIs, scorecards, dashboards, operational reporting, and performance metrics.
  • Experience supporting financial management, budget oversight, vendor governance, and resource planning activities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to influence leaders and drive outcomes without direct reporting authority.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-support capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams, programs, operational functions, or organizational initiatives and driving results through both direct leadership and influence.
  • Experience establishing new operational capabilities, governance models, organizational processes, and reporting structures within complex organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience supporting large technology organizations.
  • Healthcare technology, payer, claims processing, reimbursement, payment integrity, or related healthcare experience.
  • Experience supporting organizations consisting of 500+ technology resources.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC), release management, production support, application modernization, cloud transformation, and technology delivery practices.
  • Experience developing leadership presentations, operating reviews, strategic planning materials, and organizational communications.
  • Prior people leadership experience within Engineering Operations, PMO, Business Operations, Governance, Analytics, or Portfolio Management functions.
  • Experience building or scaling Engineering Operations capabilities within a large organization.
  • PMP, Lean, Six Sigma, Agile, Portfolio Management, or equivalent professional certifications.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Operations Management, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:
  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Engineering Management, Information Technology, Operations Management, Public Administration, or a related discipline.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$100,000.00 - $231,540.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
