Position Overview
The Senior Integration Architect will serve as a hands-on technical leader responsible for designing, developing, modernizing, and supporting system integrations built on IBM Transformation Extender (ITX/Mercator). This role requires deep technical proficiency across both legacy Mercator 8.x and current ITX 10.x platforms, coupled with strong expertise in Midrange AIX environments.
The architect will partner closely with application teams, infrastructure teams, business stakeholders, and cross-functional technical groups to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable data transformation and message processing solutions. In addition to architectural leadership, this role is highly hands-on and will actively participate in development, troubleshooting, code reviews, and performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Integration Architecture & Solution Design
- Design end-to-end integration solutions using IBM Mercator 8.x and IBM Transformation Extender (ITX) 10.x, ensuring compliance with enterprise architecture standards and modernization goals.
- Define architectural patterns, reusable transformation components, and migration strategies from legacy 8.x maps to 10.x ITX environments.
- Evaluate existing integrations, identify improvement opportunities, and recommend scalable, secure, and performance-optimized designs.
2. Hands-On Development & Modernization
- Develop, enhance, and maintain maps, workflows, and transformation logic in both Mercator 8.x and ITX 10.x.
- Participate in code migration, remediation, and optimization efforts as systems transition from legacy versions to modern platforms.
- Troubleshoot complex transformation issues, perform debugging, root-cause analysis, and provide production support when needed.
- Work with midrange AIX environments for deployment, configuration, packaging, and performance tuning.
3. Platform Support & System Administration
- Manage ITX/Mercator runtime environments on AIX systems, including installation, upgrades, patches, and environment configuration.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams on system performance, workload balancing, capacity planning, and backup/restore strategies.
- Implement monitoring solutions and dashboards to maintain high availability and detect issues proactively.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Leadership
- Serve as a senior technical resource to development teams, providing guidance on mapping standards, EDI/data transformation best practices, and integration architecture conventions.
- Work closely with project managers, business analysts, QA teams, and external vendors to ensure technical requirements are fully understood and properly implemented.
- Conduct technical reviews, provide recommendations, and mentor junior developers on Mercator/ITX platforms.
5. Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure all integration components adhere to security, compliance, and organizational governance requirements.
- Maintain documentation including architecture diagrams, mapping specifications, development standards, operational procedures, and migration strategies.
- Support test planning, defect triage, and performance testing for integration releases.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong expertise in IBM Mercator 8.x (legacy) and IBM Transformation Extender (ITX) 10.x (current) platforms.
- Proven experience designing and developing complex data transformation and message-processing solutions.
- Hands-on experience working in AIX midrange systems, including deploying and supporting ITX runtimes.
- Ability to work as a hands-on architect, capable of performing development tasks, troubleshooting issues, supporting production, and guiding technical teams.
- Solid understanding of structured and unstructured data formats (XML, JSON, EDI, flat files, CSV, proprietary formats).
- Proficiency in integration design patterns, high-volume transaction processing, and performance tuning.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple priorities and tight timelines.
Preferred Qualifications
