Senior Citrix VDI Engineer - Full Time Direct Only

Our client is seeking a Senior Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Engineer who will serve as a core technical leader within our client’s architecture team. You will drive the reliability, security, and performance of their end-user computing platforms while accelerating their cloud migration strategy. This role bridges advanced engineering projects—like migrating from on-premises Citrix to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) with day-to-day enterprise operational support.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Engineering

• Lead Design & Optimization: Partner with IT leadership to design, scale, and optimize resilient and secure virtual desktop environments.
• Drive Cloud Migrations: Execute the strategy to migrate on-premises Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD) to AVD and Citrix DaaS with minimal business disruption.
• Modernize End-User Computing: Evaluate, deploy, and refine profile management and application-delivery solutions (FSLogix, Citrix UPM).
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Align with Infrastructure, Security, and Network teams to deliver cohesive enterprise IT solutions.

 Operations & Advanced Support

• Own the Queue: Actively manage, prioritize, and resolve Tier-3 operational tickets, incidents, and complex escalations within SLAs.
• Troubleshoot Complex Issues: Diagnose deep technical faults across virtual desktops, profiles, networking, and authentication.
• Off-Hours Maintenance: Participate in system upgrades, disaster recovery drills, and scheduled maintenance outside standard hours.

 Automation & Documentation

• Automate Workflows: Build and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate deployment, monitoring, and reporting tasks.
• Technical Authoring: Create crisp architectural diagrams, implementation guidelines, standards, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Mentorship & Knowledge Transfer: Train internal engineering and service desk support teams to ensure a smooth handoff of new systems.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience: 7+ years architecting, managing, and supporting large-scale enterprise VDI environments.
• Speed to Value: Proven ability to step into complex environments and become productive immediately, ideally backed by contract or consulting experience.

Technical Expertise

• Citrix Suite: Strong architecture and troubleshooting skills with CVAD (on premises), Citrix DaaS, StoreFront, Delivery Controllers, MCS, PVS, and Citrix Gateway/ADC.
• Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD): Deep knowledge of AVD host pools, workspaces, scaling, image management, and hybrid cloud delivery.
• Profile & Identity Management: Mastery of FSLogix, Citrix UPM, Ivanti Workspace Control (AppSense), Active Directory, and Group Policy.
• Security & Systems: Experience with Ivanti Application Control, Windows Defender Application Control, Windows OS (Server/Desktop), and Hyper-V (or AWS/VMware alternatives).
• Automation & Tools: Advanced scripting skills in PowerShell; familiarity with Nerdio Manager for Enterprise is preferred.

 Core Soft Skills

• Ability to balance strategic, long-term engineering milestones with fast-paced, daily ticket queues.
• Exceptional skills in technical documentation, translating complex concepts for stakeholder updates, and technical training.

Preferred Certifications

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty
• Citrix Certified Professional or Expert - Virtualization (CCP-V / CCE-V)
