Job Description:Johnson & Johnson MedTech is recruiting for a Sr. Principal Engineer Robotics to be based in Santa Clara CA to lead the technical development of our OTTAVA surgical robotic system.

Job SummaryWe are looking for a highly experienced Sr. Principal Engineer with a background in robotics to lead technical development areas across system integration, robotics & controls, and automation. This engineer will work independently to explore new technologies, solve existing technical challenges, and propose R&D process improvements. They will also serve the lead of cross-functional technical project teams, planning and managing the work of other engineers.
Job Responsibilities- Lead advanced technical development across robotics domains, drive architecture-level decisions, and lead cross-functional teams on technical projects
- Independently explore emerging technologies and solve existing complex technical challenges
- Develop and implement algorithms for surgical robotic manipulation and advanced robotics behaviors
- Evaluate and improve R&D processes across systems integration, software development, and robotics development
- Serve as a chief robotics expert to OTTAVA Senior R&D Leadership
Qualifications - Education and Experience:One of the following combinations of years of experience and education are required:
- 10+ years with PhD (Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, Controls, or equivalent area) in developing robotics
- 12+ years with MS (Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, Controls, or equivalent area) in developing robotics
Additional Qualifications:- Deep understanding of robotics fundamentals (e.g. kinematics, dynamics, control theory, modelling, calibration, system characterization, & identification) is required.
- Deep knowledge in robotic system design, integration, debugging, and testing is required.
- Experience with robot algorithm development, implementation, and debugging is required.
- Understanding of computer science fundamentals (e.g. algorithms, data structures, object-oriented programming) is required.
- Collaborative teammate with excellent written and in-person communication skills are essential.
- Experience working on surgical robotics technologies is highly beneficial.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards applicable to surgical robotics is an asset.
- Prior experience as a people leader is preferred.
The anticipated base pay range for this position is 157,000 to $270,825. California Bay Area.
