Summary

MS Python Developer

Veterans Affairs ESOM Program

Overview

Seeking an experienced Senior Python Integration Engineer to design, develop, and maintain AI-driven integration services connecting Large Language Models (LLMs), Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, and enterprise monitoring applications. This role involves building Python-based pipelines, communication layers, and structured MCP workflows to enable intelligent automation throughout the VA ESOM alert-to-incident lifecycle. The ideal candidate is a skilled Python developer with deep experience integrating AI systems into enterprise environments, capable of translating operational needs into scalable, reliable, AI-supported solutions that enhance event enrichment, correlation, reasoning, and automated decision-making. Reporting to the Application Performance Monitoring Manager, this engineer will play a central role in improving signal quality, reducing MTTx, and enabling AI-enhanced workflows across the VA’s monitoring ecosystem.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • Eight years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.

Certification Requirements

There are no certification requirements for this role.

Clearance Requirements

Public Trust clearance required.

Work Arrangement

Remote; travel to regional sites as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain MCP servers and Python services that coordinate structured reasoning workflows between LLMs and enterprise monitoring tools.
  • Develop Python-based interfaces that generate and process MCP calls, enabling robust communication pathways between LLMs and downstream systems.
  • Implement end-to-end pipelines where LLMs interpret events, retrieve contextual data via MCP, and return enriched insights to VA monitoring platforms.
  • Build autonomous reasoning and correlation behaviors that analyze alerts, reduce noise, recommend escalation paths, and provide enriched incident context.
  • Ensure all Python, MCP, and monitoring tool workflows are high-performance, secure, and reliable.
  • Write, maintain, and optimize production-grade Python code supporting 24×7×365 monitoring operations.
  • Integrate new AI capabilities into existing event management, triage, and operational workflows within VA ESOM systems.
  • Apply best practices for security, reliability, performance, and scalability in distributed environments.
  • Collaborate with Event Management and Major Incident teams to understand operational requirements and develop AI-driven solutions.
  • Support efforts to reduce MTTD/MTTR through automated enrichment, improved correlation, and intelligent insights.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews to identify automation and AI augmentation opportunities.
  • Serve as a technical mentor for Python, MCP, and AI-driven automation workflows and promote engineering excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience with expert-level Python skills.
  • Experience integrating LLMs or other AI models with enterprise applications or automation systems.
  • Familiarity with MCP or similar structured API/orchestration frameworks.
  • Background supporting monitoring, event correlation, or incident management platforms, ideally within large-scale or federal environments.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise monitoring processes and operational workflows.

Desired Skills

  • Experience designing structured calls between AI models, MCP services, and downstream tools.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate operational requirements into scalable solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and explain complex concepts clearly.

Pay Range

Pay range: $100,000.00–$140,000.00 (annual).
This pay range is based on qualifications and experience, and assumes all role requirements are met.

Why Apply

This is an excellent opportunity to leverage your Python and AI integration expertise in a vital federal environment, contributing to innovative automation solutions that enhance operational efficiency.
