Job Title: Senior DevOps Engineer - Platform Engineer

Location: Remote in the USA

Role Overview

This role focuses on building and operating scalable cloud platforms, with a strong emphasis on Kubernetes (Amazon EKS), Internal Developer Platforms (IDP) using Backstage, and automation through Python and Shell scripting.

Key Requirement

Proven experience in designing and implementing Internal Developer Platforms using Backstage to enhance developer productivity, service discovery, and platform automation.

Key Responsibilities

Platform & IDP Architecture

Design and implement Internal Developer Platforms (IDP) enabling self-service infrastructure and deployments
Define platform standards, reusable templates, and “golden paths” for engineering teams
Architect scalable Backstage-based developer portals integrating cloud, CI/CD, and infrastructure

Backstage Development

Deploy and manage Backstage within Kubernetes environments
Build and customize:
- Plugins
- Software templates
- Service catalog
- TechDocs
Integrate with tools such as CI/CD pipelines, EKS, and source control systems

Platform Automation

Develop automated workflows for service creation, infrastructure provisioning, and deployments
Implement self-service capabilities using Backstage scaffolder templates

Kubernetes & Integration

Integrate Backstage with Amazon EKS and platform services
Enable visibility into services, deployments, environments, observability, and security

Developer Experience (DevEx)

Improve onboarding and deployment experience for developers
Standardize workflows across teams
Maintain service ownership and metadata via Backstage catalog

Required Experience

5+ years of hands-on experience with Backstage in production environments
Strong experience designing Internal Developer Platforms (IDP)
Proven integration experience with:
- Kubernetes platforms
- CI/CD pipelines
- Infrastructure automation tools
Solid understanding of platform engineering and developer experience best practices
