Senior Oracle Database Administrator
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Oracle Database Administrator to manage, secure, optimize, and modernize enterprise Oracle database environments across on-premises infrastructure, Microsoft Azure, and Amazon Web Services. The Senior Oracle DBA will support highly available, mission-critical systems and lead database architecture, installation, upgrades, migrations, replication, performance tuning, backup and recovery, security, automation, and production support activities.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience with Oracle Database, Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle Data Guard, Oracle GoldenGate, Recovery Manager, Oracle Enterprise Manager, and cloud-based database services. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills, experience supporting large and complex database environments, and the ability to coordinate with application, infrastructure, cybersecurity, DevOps, and cloud engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Oracle Database Administration
Install, configure, administer, patch, upgrade, and maintain Oracle database environments.
Support Oracle Database versions 12c, 18c, 19c, 21c, or later across development, testing, staging, disaster recovery, and production environments.
Manage Oracle Real Application Clusters, Automatic Storage Management, Oracle Data Guard, Recovery Manager, Enterprise Manager, and multitenant container and pluggable databases.
Perform database cloning, refreshes, migrations, upgrades, platform conversions, and environment provisioning.
Manage database objects, tablespaces, schemas, users, roles, profiles, privileges, database links, and storage capacity.
Develop and maintain database standards, operational procedures, architecture diagrams, runbooks, and configuration documentation.
Participate in database technology evaluations, capacity planning, infrastructure modernization, and lifecycle management.
Oracle GoldenGate and Data Replication
Design, configure, administer, monitor, and troubleshoot Oracle GoldenGate replication environments.
Implement real-time, active-passive, active-active, and bidirectional data replication solutions.
Configure GoldenGate Extract, Pump, Replicat, Integrated Extract, Integrated Replicat, checkpoint tables, trail files, and parameter files.
Support heterogeneous data replication between Oracle and other database platforms.
Monitor replication latency, transaction backlogs, discarded transactions, abended processes, and data synchronization issues.
Perform initial data loads, replication validation, reconciliation, failover testing, and recovery activities.
Implement GoldenGate monitoring, alerting, logging, security, and operational automation.
Support GoldenGate-based database migrations, cloud transitions, zero-downtime upgrades, and disaster recovery solutions.
Cloud Database Administration
Administer Oracle databases hosted in Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.
Support Oracle databases running on Azure Virtual Machines, AWS EC2, Amazon RDS for Oracle, and other supported cloud architectures.
Plan and execute on-premises-to-cloud and cloud-to-cloud database migrations.
Configure cloud networking, private endpoints, virtual networks, subnets, security groups, storage, encryption, monitoring, and backup services.
Work with Azure services such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Backup, Key Vault, Azure Storage, and Microsoft Entra ID.
Work with AWS services such as CloudWatch, CloudTrail, AWS Backup, S3, IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, and Database Migration Service.
Optimize cloud database compute, storage, licensing, availability, performance, and operating costs.
Support hybrid cloud architectures and integrate on-premises databases with Azure and AWS services.
Apply infrastructure-as-code and automated provisioning methods using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Azure Resource Manager, or Bicep when applicable.
Performance Monitoring and Optimization
Monitor database availability, performance, storage growth, resource utilization, replication status, and system health.
Analyze Automatic Workload Repository, Active Session History, Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor, execution plans, wait events, locking, blocking, and SQL performance.
Tune SQL statements, indexes, memory structures, initialization parameters, storage configurations, and database workloads.
Identify and remediate performance bottlenecks across database, application, network, operating system, and storage layers.
Perform proactive capacity planning, trend analysis, workload forecasting, and database health assessments.
Develop automated scripts and dashboards for database monitoring, reporting, and alerting.
Backup, Recovery, and Disaster Recovery
Develop and maintain enterprise backup, recovery, high-availability, and disaster recovery strategies.
Configure and manage Oracle Recovery Manager backup and recovery processes.
Perform point-in-time recovery, database restoration, tablespace recovery, block recovery, and disaster recovery testing.
Administer Oracle Data Guard physical and logical standby databases.
Conduct switchover, failover, reinstatement, and disaster recovery exercises.
Validate recovery time objectives and recovery point objectives through scheduled testing.
Maintain backup retention, archival, encryption, and off-site recovery procedures.
Database Security and Compliance
Apply Oracle Critical Patch Updates, security patches, release updates, and configuration hardening standards.
Manage database authentication, authorization, privileged access, encryption, auditing, and credential management.
Support Transparent Data Encryption, Oracle Database Vault, Unified Auditing, Oracle Audit Vault, and data masking capabilities.
Review and remediate database vulnerabilities, unsupported software versions, excessive privileges, and security findings.
Support compliance requirements related to NIST, FISMA, Federal Information Security Modernization Act, Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, Security Technical Implementation Guides, and organizational security policies.
Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to support assessments, authorization activities, vulnerability scans, incident response, and audit requests.
Maintain database access records, patching evidence, security documentation, and configuration baselines.
Automation and DevOps Support
Automate recurring database administration activities using SQL, PL/SQL, Shell, PowerShell, Python, or Ansible.
Develop scripts for database health checks, backups, refreshes, patching, monitoring, user administration, and reporting.
Integrate database changes into continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines.
Support automated database deployments, schema version control, rollback procedures, and release management.
Collaborate with DevOps teams using tools such as Git, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Ansible, and Terraform.
Review application database designs, schema changes, SQL scripts, deployment packages, and data migration plans.
Production Support and Incident Management
Provide Tier III support for database incidents, performance degradation, outages, and replication failures.
Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support for production releases, maintenance, and critical incidents.
Lead root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive actions.
Coordinate database maintenance, patching, upgrades, and production deployments with technical and business stakeholders.
Maintain incident, problem, change, and configuration records within ServiceNow or a comparable IT service management platform.
Mentor junior database administrators and provide technical leadership across database operations.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Eight or more years of Oracle database administration experience.
Five or more years of experience supporting enterprise production database environments.
Three or more years of hands-on experience with Oracle GoldenGate.
Experience administering Oracle databases within Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.
Advanced experience with Oracle Database, Real Application Clusters, Automatic Storage Management, Data Guard, Recovery Manager, Enterprise Manager, and multitenant architecture.
Strong experience with database migrations, upgrades, patching, backup, recovery, performance tuning, and disaster recovery.
Experience administering Oracle databases on Linux or Unix operating systems.
Proficiency with SQL, PL/SQL, Shell scripting, or Python.
Experience supporting high-availability, high-volume, and mission-critical enterprise applications.
Strong understanding of database security, identity and access management, encryption, auditing, and vulnerability remediation.
Strong analytical, documentation, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting Oracle Enterprise Business Suite, Oracle Federal Financials, Oracle Fusion Middleware, PeopleSoft, or other enterprise Oracle applications.
Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Oracle Database services.
Experience with Amazon RDS for Oracle, AWS Database Migration Service, Azure Database Migration Service, or Oracle Zero Downtime Migration.
Experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake, or other relational database platforms.
Experience with Oracle GoldenGate Microservices Architecture and GoldenGate Veridata.
Experience with container platforms, Kubernetes, Docker, or OpenShift.
Experience with Terraform, Ansible, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
Experience supporting federal government systems or regulated environments.
Knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library, Agile, Scrum, DevSecOps, and change management processes.
Active Public Trust, Secret clearance, or ability to obtain a government suitability determination.
