Starting Pay: $70/hrPosition OverviewA major aerospace and defense contractor is seeking a
Sr. Principal NDT Engineer to support inspection, verification, and evaluation of advanced aerospace hardware, including rocket motors, composite structures, and both energetic and non-energetic components.
This role involves developing innovative nondestructive testing processes, partnering with engineering teams to ensure manufacturability and quality, and supporting production and R&D activities. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong analytical capability, and extensive NAS-410 Level 3 certification experience.
Key Responsibilities- Review engineering drawings and design documents to determine appropriate NDT methods aligned with material types and required defect detection thresholds.
- Develop and document detailed inspection procedures, including test parameters and requirements.
- Perform technical audits of NDT personnel and ensure compliance with requirements and standards.
- Provide support to production operations, including equipment troubleshooting and coordination with maintenance teams.
- Contribute to R&D efforts to enhance inspection capabilities and introduce new NDT technologies and methodologies.
- Generate formal inspection reports with recommendations, data analysis, graphics, plots, and summary assessments.
- Maintain and archive both electronic and hard-copy inspection records.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience,
- OR a Master's degree with 6+ years,
- OR a PhD with 4+ years.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret security clearance.
- Minimum of one NAS-410 Level 3 certification (held for at least 2 years) in Eddy Current (ET), Ultrasonic (UT), or Radiography (RT).
- Certification documentation required.
- Willingness and ability to obtain additional NAS-410 Level 3 certifications in ET, MT, UT, RT, and PT.
- Ability to cross-train across multiple NDT disciplines.
- Ability to meet NAS-410 vision requirements (20/25 Snellen or Jaeger No. 1).
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with CAD tools or similar design software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight; strong multitasking and self-management skills.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Prior experience performing NDT on aerospace components.
- Experience conducting root-cause investigations and recommending corrective actions.
