Utilities Engineer

Anticipated Starting Salary Range: $72,946 - $90,000

Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience

The State Corporation Commission ("SCC" or "Commission") Division of Public Utility Regulation ("PUR") seeks an Engineer with a passion for public service and protecting the public interest in Virginia. PUR provides support to the Commission in its regulation of Virginia's investor-owned electric, natural gas, water and sewer utilities, member owned electric cooperatives, and the telecommunications industry. The responsibilities of the Utilities Engineer role include technical review and analysis of the need for and siting of proposed electrical transmission lines, electric distribution reliability and generating unit performance. This position is based in Richmond, Virginia and operates on a hybrid schedule, including remote and in-office work each week (Monday - Friday). Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct analysis and make recommendations relative to applications for certificates of public convenience and necessity to construct and operate transmission lines and generating facilities.
Monitor, analyze, and make recommendations related to electric utility distribution reliability performance.
Monitor, analyze, and make recommendations related to utility generation unit performance.
Investigate and respond to technical consumer complaints related to electric distribution service reliability.
Prepare and submit written technical reports and testify as a staff witness in formal adjudicatory proceedings.
Assist and monitor the physical and cyber security activities of regulated entities and make recommendations.
Perform other related work as required.
