Job DetailsDirector of Construction (Civil Engineer / Transportation Infrastructure) - Fairfax, VA
Seeking a Senior Civil Construction Engineer to with VDOT experience. Successful candidates will be an experience leader able to establish, manage, and expand a Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) practice throughout Virginia. This role will provide strategic direction, operational leadership, and executive oversight of roadway and bridge construction programs while fostering strong relationships with transportation agencies and municipal clients across the Commonwealth.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience with roadway and bridge construction projects in Virginia.
- Demonstrated success managing Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) contracts for public-sector transportation clients.
- Proven ability to build, lead, and grow a construction services practice, division, or business unit.
- Strong leadership, communication, project management, and client relationship skills.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (Virginia PE or ability to obtain).
- Established relationships with VDOT and/or Virginia transportation agencies preferred.
- Experience overseeing multiple projects, programs, or operations across a region or statewide.
Duties
- Lead the growth and development of a Virginia-based CEI and construction services program.
- Direct the delivery of roadway and bridge construction projects for state and local transportation clients.
- Ensure compliance with project schedules, budgets, quality standards, and agency requirements.
- Serve as a senior client representative and maintain strong relationships with transportation stakeholders.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop construction management and inspection personnel.
- Support business development initiatives, including proposals, pursuits, client engagement, and strategic growth planning.
- Collaborate with executive and regional leadership to achieve operational and business objectives.
