Summary

The Senior Network Engineer is a member of the IT Network Infrastructure (NI) team, responsible for supporting the stability, performance, and security of the Board''s enterprise and data center network infrastructure.  This role provides engineering expertise in the design, implementation, and operation of complex network systems across hybrid infrastructure.

 

The position supports and maintains Cisco based environments, including Catalyst and Nexus platforms, wireless networks, ISE, and IPS.  The engineer ensures high availability and operation reliability across switching, routing, firewall, wireless and optical infrastructure, while contributing to network design, modernization, and continuous improvement efforts. Advanced experience in BGP, OSPF, STP, VXLAN, and network design is essential.

 

Preferred candidates will also have experience with technologies such as AWS networking, Cisco DNA, Zscaler, and Cisco Wireless. Certification such as CCNP or CCIE, or equivalent, is highly desirable.

 

Highly Desirable:

·         Expert level, hands-on experience with BGP, OSPF and VXLANs in production environments including route design, policy control, traffic engineering and failover scenarios.

·         Extensive experience configuring, deploying, and supporting enterprise and data center networks, particularly Cisco Nexus and Catalyst platforms.

·         Demonstrated ability to lead complex routing and switching initiatives, including architecture, design, deployment, and optimization.

·         Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to prevent outages and improve network reliability.

·         Deep expertise in TCP/IP and packet level troubleshooting (PCAP/Wireshark analysis).

·         Experience managing hybrid network environments, including on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure.

·         Ability to develop and implement network designs focused on scalability, resiliency, and fault tolerance.

·         Familiarity with cloud and modern networking technologies such as AWS networking, Cisco DNA, and Zscaler.

·         Experience with network monitoring and observability tools, including performance analysis, capacity planning, and proactive issue detection.  Familiarity with network automation and AIOps concepts leveraging scripting, and telemetry to optimize network performance and reliability.

·         Experience developing technical documentation and presenting complex technical information clearly and concisely.

·         Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and build productive working relationships to achieve mission objectives.

·         Demonstrated initiative, learning agility, and commitment to continuous professional development.

·         Industry certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent.

 

This role entails participating in on-call rotations, including some night and weekend shifts according to rotation schedules and ad hoc requirements. ship is required. This position requires an in-office presence in Washington, DC.

FR- 28 Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a bachelor''s degree, preferably in computer science, information technology or a related field or equivalent experience plus eight years of experience. Leads highly complex efforts. Works with a high degree of independence under the guidance of the manager; is self-directing, with no technical, and little business or management guidance needed from the manager. Suggests new initiatives. Plans, designs, and carries out programs, projects, studies, and other work independently. Responsible for handling most problems and coordinating with others. Directs tasks for lower-level staff.
