Job Summary

STAFFXPERT LLC is seeking a Network Monitoring System Engineer II on behalf of our client in Woodlawn, MD. This role is responsible for designing, optimizing, and advancing enterprise network monitoring solutions within a large-scale, mission-critical environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in network monitoring tools, event correlation, and operational analytics to enhance visibility, reliability, and overall network performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and enhance enterprise network monitoring solutions to improve system visibility and operational efficiency
  • Lead event correlation, topology modeling, and root cause analysis across complex network environments
  • Evaluate and optimize monitoring tools such as SMARTS, NetOps, SL1, and Netcool
  • Improve Network Operations Center (NOC) effectiveness through alert optimization and incident response enhancements
  • Design and implement service-aware monitoring aligned with business and mission impact
  • Integrate monitoring platforms with SIEM/SOAR tools (e.g., Splunk) and other enterprise systems
  • Establish standards, governance, and best practices for monitoring configuration and data quality
  • Identify and implement automation, AIOps, and predictive analytics solutions
  • Mentor engineering teams and promote outcome-driven monitoring practices
  • Support troubleshooting of complex network issues and guide teams toward root cause resolution
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in network monitoring, network engineering, or NOC operations within large enterprise or federal environments
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise monitoring platforms such as VMware SMARTS, Broadcom DX NetOps, ScienceLogic SL1, IBM Netcool, or similar tools
  • Expertise in event correlation, alarm management, topology modeling, and dependency mapping
  • Strong experience performing root cause analysis in complex distributed systems
  • Solid understanding of SNMP, NetFlow/IPFIX, telemetry, syslog, WAN/LAN, firewalls, load balancers, and hybrid cloud environments
  • Experience integrating monitoring tools with SIEM platforms such as Splunk
  • Proven ability to reduce alert noise and improve actionable monitoring insights
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business impact
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting federal government or large-scale enterprise environments
  • Familiarity with AIOps and observability platforms such as Dynatrace, Datadog, Elastic, or LogicMonitor
  • Experience with automation and scripting (e.g., Python, APIs)
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust architecture and enterprise logging standards
  • Experience working in high-availability, secure, and compliance-driven environments
