COBOL Developer

STAND 8 provides end to end IT solutions to enterprise partners across the United States and with offices in Los Angeles, New York, New Jersey, Atlanta, and more including internationally in Mexico and India.

The Mainframe Programmer (COBOL) will provide long-term support for critical payroll and related legacy mainframe applications. This role will develop, maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance COBOL programs to ensure reliable and secure production operations. The programmer will collaborate with business analysts, QA teams, and system administrators while supporting batch processing and data management activities. This mostly remote contract position requires local availability to commute to Long Beach when onsite support is needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain COBOL-based mainframe applications supporting essential payroll and related business operations.


• Analyze, debug, and optimize existing code to improve system performance, reliability, and maintainability.


• Collaborate with business analysts, QA teams, and system administrators to define requirements and deliver technical solutions.


• Perform data analysis, file management, and batch processing in JCL and VSAM environments.


• Support production systems by troubleshooting and resolving issues promptly.


• Document system designs, code changes, and operational procedures.


• Provide continuity of support for legacy mainframe systems during transition and future replacement initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

• 3+ years of experience in mainframe programming, with a focus on COBOL, JCL, and VSAM.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred (Optional):

• Familiarity with DB2, CICS, and batch processing preferred.

Additional Details

The base range for this contract position is $65 - $75 / per hour, depending on experience. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires of this position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered.
