Job Description:
- The Salesforce System Architect provides senior-level platform technical and architectural leadership for the Salesforce ecosystem within Sammons Financial Group (SFG). This role represents a senior technical individual contributor position within the IT architecture discipline, focused on the Salesforce platform. The Salesforce System Architect focuses on Salesforce platform architecture, technical direction, and delivery quality rather than day-to-day development execution.
- While not expected to regularly build production code, the role requires deep, hands-on Salesforce development and declarative expertise in order to mentor development teams, review designs and implementations, establish standards, and ensure consistent, high-quality solutions.
- This role is accountable for strengthening SFG's internal Salesforce technical leadership, reducing reliance on external Salesforce professional services, and ensuring Salesforce solutions are secure, scalable, supportable, and aligned with enterprise and solution architecture direction.
Responsibilities:
Salesforce Platform Architecture & Design - Own and evolve the Salesforce platform architecture across clouds (e.g., Service Cloud, Financial Services Cloud) in alignment with Solution Architecture and Enterprise Architecture guidance.
- Translate solution-level architecture into Salesforce-specific system designs, including data models, integration patterns, security models, and automation strategies.
- Define and maintain Salesforce architecture standards, design patterns, and guardrails, including declarative-first guidance and approved Apex patterns.
- Act as the primary technical authority for Salesforce platform decisions within assigned delivery teams.
- This role is responsible for approving Salesforce technical approaches and enforcing adherence to established platform standards.
Technical Leadership & Mentorship - Lead the transition of Salesforce technical ownership from external professional services to internal delivery teams through knowledge transfer, standards definition, and mentorship.
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership to Salesforce development teams without direct people management responsibility.
- Mentor developers on Apex, Flows, Lightning Web Components, and Salesforce best practices through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
- Review and approve complex or high-risk technical designs, user stories, and implementation approaches.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex Salesforce technical challenges.
Agile Delivery Enablement - Embed with agile delivery teams and actively participate in sprint ceremonies (backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives).
- Partner with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and QA to ensure technical feasibility, quality, and alignment with architectural direction.
- Guide decomposition of epics and features into technically sound user stories.
- Support delivery teams by removing technical blockers and reducing rework through early design engagement.
Integration, Data, and Security Architecture - Design Salesforce integration patterns with internal and external systems, leveraging appropriate approaches such as APIs, platform events, CDC, and asynchronous processing.
- Ensure data consistency, integrity, and lifecycle management across integrated systems.
- Define and enforce Salesforce security architecture, including sharing models, permission strategies, authentication, and authorization.
- Ensure Salesforce solutions meet organizational security, compliance, and operational requirements.
Quality, Reliability, and Operations - Define and enforce Salesforce development and deployment standards, including CI/CD practices, testing strategies, and environment management.
- Partner with DevOps and operations teams to ensure Salesforce solutions are reliable, observable, and supportable.
- Review and guide performance optimization, governor limit management, and scalability considerations.
- Contribute to incident analysis and root cause reviews for Salesforce-related production issues.
Collaboration & Architecture Alignment - Collaborate closely with Solution Architects to ensure Salesforce system designs align with broader solutions and enterprise architecture.
- Provide Salesforce-specific input into solution designs, tradeoff discussions, and architectural decisions.
- Clearly document and communicate Salesforce system designs using appropriate diagrams and artifacts (e.g., system diagrams, sequence flows, data models)
Required Skills:
Salesforce Technical Expertise - Deep expertise with Salesforce platform capabilities, including:
- Apex
- Flows and declarative automation
- Lightning Web Components
- Data modeling and security architecture
- Strong understanding of Salesforce governor limits, performance optimization, and scalability considerations.
- Proven experience applying Apex Enterprise Design Patterns and declarative-first design principles.
Architecture & Design - Strong understanding of application, data, integration, security, and operational architecture domains within Salesforce.
- Experience designing Salesforce solutions in complex, integrated enterprise environments.
- Ability to evaluate tradeoffs and make pragmatic design decisions within defined architectural constraints.
Leadership & Communication - Ability to mentor and influence developers and technical team members without formal authority.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable leading technical discussions, design sessions, and architecture reviews.
Ways of Working - Strong understanding of Agile and DevOps practices.
- Comfortable working across multiple initiatives and managing competing priorities.
- Self-directed, proactive, and comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy.
Bonus Skills:
- Experience with Service Cloud and/or Financial Services Cloud.
- Experience with Omni-Channel and OmniStudio.
- Experience designing business rules engines and complex automation frameworks.
- Experience with Salesforce CI/CD tooling and automated testing strategies.
- Experience in regulated industries (e.g., financial services, insurance, healthcare).
- Salesforce certifications such as Platform Developer II, JavaScript Developer I, or Salesforce Architect certifications.
