Summary

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Senior Node.js Developer for a CONTRACT assignment with one of our premier Regulatory clients in Woodbridge, NJ or the DMV area.

The main function of a Node.js Developer with strong Object Oriented Programming design is to develop, create, and modify APIs and interfaces through an understanding of the business layer, leveraging Node.js on the backend and Angular on the frontend. The ideal candidate thrives in an Agile environment, is well-versed in CI/CD pipelines, and embraces modern development practices including AI-assisted coding tools and serverless architectures such as AWS Lambda.

Responsibilities :
The Senior Node.js Developer will work under minimal supervision and will develop, test, debug, and document web-based software components commensurate with their experience, and will work with senior development staff in support of a software engineering effort in a dynamic Agile/CI/CD-driven environment.
  • Engage with the business development team and/or customer early on to seek a deeper appreciation of the customers' business problem/goals
  • Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints
  • Coordinate software system installation and monitor equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met
  • Design, develop, and modify software systems using Node.js and Angular, applying scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design
  • Analyze information to determine, recommend, and plan computer specifications and layouts, and peripheral equipment modifications
  • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog grooming
  • Contribute to and champion CI/CD pipeline development, maintenance, and continuous improvement across the software delivery lifecycle
  • Review and analyze complex process, system, and/or data requirements and specifications across a major program or project or several small projects or programs
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for one or more areas (subsystems) for a larger system or multiple areas (subsystems) for smaller systems
  • Serve as the primary designer for complex component designs for one or more areas (subsystems) for a larger system or multiple areas (subsystems) for smaller systems
  • Build, test, deploy, and document complex software components using Node.js and Angular, following Agile methodologies and fully automated CI/CD workflows
  • Experience working with the following technology stack: Node.js, NestJS / Express.js, Angular, TypeScript, Jest / Mocha (unit testing), PostgreSQL, Amazon Web Services (AWS), EC2, S3, Fargate, AWS Lambda, Jenkins, CloudFormation, CI/CD pipelines
  • Design, develop, and deploy serverless functions using AWS Lambda with Node.js runtime, including event-driven integrations with AWS services (API Gateway, S3, SQS, DynamoDB, etc.)
  • Build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent, ensuring fast, reliable, and automated software delivery
  • Drive Agile best practices across the team, including iterative development, continuous feedback, and incremental delivery
  • Create software engineering strategies that help identify and mitigate risks
  • Lead other team members in peer review of code and identify reusable Node.js and Angular frameworks and design patterns
  • Interface with other team members and other teams in peer review of requirements, specifications, and software
  • Document and communicate development status in a timely manner including metric reporting
  • Champion the collaborative resolution of defects
  • Direct internal process improvement initiatives; provide feedback on processes by offering suggestions
  • Mentor and supervise junior staff in project-level tasks, particularly around Angular, Node.js, AWS Lambda, Agile practices, and CI/CD workflows
  • Participate in external process improvement committees as a Development representative
  • Assist with adherence to technology policies and comply with all security controls
  • Ensure all work products meet/exceed firm standards
Required Skills :
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline with at least seven (7) years of related experience, or equivalent training and/or work experience; Master's degree and past Financial Services industry experience preferred
  • 3+ years of hands-on, production-level experience with Node.js (Express.js, NestJS, or equivalent frameworks)
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Angular (v12+), including RxJS, Angular CLI, Angular Material, and TypeScript
  • Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda and serverless application development, including integration with AWS event sources and infrastructure-as-code tools (CloudFormation, SAM, or CDK)
  • Proven experience working in Agile/Scrum teams, including sprint-based delivery, story pointing, and iterative development cycles
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent tooling
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in Object Oriented and database technologies/concepts which resulted in deployment of enterprise-quality solutions
  • Extensive knowledge of industry-leading software engineering approaches including Test Automation (Jest, Mocha, Jasmine/Karma), Build Automation, and Configuration Management frameworks
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and modern JavaScript (ES6+) standards
  • Experience with AI-based code assistance tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Amazon Kiro, or equivalent) in a professional development environment is strongly encouraged and viewed as a differentiator
  • Background in Java development is a plus - candidates with prior Java or JVM-based experience who have transitioned to or are expanding into the Node.js/JavaScript ecosystem are highly encouraged to apply
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships that improved the quality of work products
  • Well organized, thorough, and able to handle competing priorities
  • Ability to maintain focus and develop proficiency in new skills rapidly
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong working knowledge of the Angular framework is required
  • Strong working knowledge of Node.js for server-side development is required
Preferred Skills :
  • Knowledge of testing frameworks such as Jest, or Playwright is preferred
