Role: Enterprise Architect
Location: Hartford, Connecticut Onsite
Role Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced Enterprise Architect to lead architecture definition and solution planning for a strategic Engine + Core modernization initiative. The architect will be responsible for producing a consolidated High-Level Design (HLD) covering business capabilities, application architecture, integration architecture, data architecture, operational architecture, and technology direction.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in enterprise architecture, distributed systems, integration patterns, cloud-native architectures, operational resilience, and large-scale transformation programs. The individual must be capable of engaging with business and technology stakeholders, validating requirements, defining architectural boundaries, identifying risks and dependencies, and establishing a blueprint that supports planning-level estimation and future implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Enterprise Architecture Leadership:
- Own the development of the consolidated Engine + Core High-Level Design.
- Define and validate business and technical capabilities based on:
- Conceptual architecture
- Business requirements
- Use cases
- End-to-end business processes
- Non-functional requirements
- Existing and target-state systems
- Establish target-state enterprise architecture aligned with business objectives.
- Facilitate architecture workshops with business, product, engineering, data, and operations teams.
- Solution Architecture & Capability Modeling
- Define logical decomposition of enterprise capabilities into:
- Services, Components, Processing layers, Data stores, Shared platform capabilities
- Document service responsibilities and architectural boundaries.
- Create capability-based architecture models and service interaction diagrams.
- Validate architecture against business workflows and future-state operating models.
- Define logical decomposition of enterprise capabilities into:
- Integration Architecture
- Define and govern enterprise integration strategies across:
- Synchronous API services, Event-driven architectures, Messaging platforms, CDC (Change Data Capture) patterns, Batch and file-based processing, External system integrations
- Responsibilities include:
- Defining integration patterns and standards
- Identifying service contracts and interaction models
- Designing resilient integration approaches
- Defining orchestration and choreography strategies
- Define and govern enterprise integration strategies across:
- Data Architecture
- Define major operational data stores and ownership models.
- Establish system-of-record boundaries.
- Define data persistence and data-platform integration patterns.
- Support reconciliation, auditability, traceability, and control requirements.
- Align architecture with enterprise data governance standards.
- Resilience, Operations & Observability
- Design architecture supporting:
- Exception management, Failure recovery, Retry and replay mechanisms, Idempotent processing, Manual remediation workflows
- Reconciliation processes, Operational monitoring, Distributed tracing, Alerting and supportability
- Define enterprise approaches for:
- High availability, Business continuity, Disaster recovery, Capacity and scalability,
- Operational readiness
- Security Architecture
- Define secure architectural patterns.
- Ensure architecture supports:
- Identity and access management
- Authentication and authorization
- Data protection
- Audit and compliance requirements
- Regulatory and enterprise security controls
- Architecture Governance
- Identify architecture gaps and overlaps.
- Document assumptions, risks, constraints, and open decisions.
- Present architecture reviews to stakeholders and governance boards.
- Address architecture review feedback and obtain solution approval.
- Support implementation planning and effort estimation.
- Design architecture supporting:
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
- 12+ years of experience in enterprise and solution architecture.5+ years leading large-scale enterprise transformation initiatives.
- Strong experience creating:
- Enterprise Architecture Blueprints
- High-Level Designs (HLDs)
- Solution Architecture Documents
- Integration Architectures
- Capability Models
- Proven experience with complex distributed and event-driven systems.
Required Technical Skills
Enterprise Architecture Frameworks (TOGAF preferred)
Business Capability Modeling
Solution Architecture
Domain-Driven Design
Microservices Architecture
Service-Oriented Architecture
Integration: REST APIs, Event-Driven Architecture, Kafka or equivalent messaging platforms, CDC frameworks, ESB/API Management platforms, Batch and File Processing Architectures
Data: Relational Databases, NoSQL Databases, Operational Data Stores, Data Warehousing, Data Governance, Master Data Management Concepts
Cloud & Platforms: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, Containers and Kubernetes, Cloud Integration Services, Observability Platforms, Caching Technologies
Security: IAM, OAuth/OIDC, API Security, Enterprise Security Patterns, Audit & Compliance Controls
Desired Experience
Insurance domain experience preferred.
Experience working with Munich Re, HSB, specialty insurance, underwriting, policy administration, claims, or core insurance platforms is highly desirable.
Experience leading Sprint 0 architecture engagements and discovery phases.
Experience supporting planning-level cost and implementation estimation.
Experience engaging with senior client stakeholders and executive leadership.
