Description: Our Client is seeking a skilled Power BI Developer to assist with our BI Program. 
Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the Business Intelligence (BI) Program by developing and supporting Power BI solutions.
  • Collaborate with business users and data analysts to gather requirements and understand business objectives for reports, visualizations, and underlying data models.
  • Identify relevant data sources and attributes for use in reporting and data models.
  • Use Excel at an intermediate level, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
  • Reverse engineer processes originally developed by business users by deconstructing existing Excel formulas, pivot tables, and data analyses to interpret business requirements based on existing manual processes.
  • Identify and suggest efficiency improvements and logic optimizations for existing business processes.
  • Design and document efficient conceptual, logical, and physical data models that support business requirements.
  • Establish reusable semantic data models within Power BI.
  • Implement row-level and column-level security within Power BI semantic models.
  • Create relationships between tables and optimize data structures.
  • Run Tabular Editor Best Practice Analyzer to ensure adherence to modeling and DAX best practices.
  • Connect to various data sources, including APIs, BigQuery, ArcGIS map and feature layers, SQL databases, Excel files, and streaming datasets.
  • Ensure seamless data extraction and transformation.
  • Collaborate with the Integrations team to determine available integration patterns.
  • Write DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) formulas, including calculated columns, measures, and custom calculations.
  • Design and develop interactive and visually appealing Power BI reports and dashboards.
  • Incorporate slicers, visuals, drill-through functionality, streaming visuals, and ArcGIS visuals.
  • Optimize Power BI reports and recommend improvements to underlying data models for better performance.
  • Utilize DAX Studio and built-in Power BI performance tools.
  • Publish reports to the Power BI Service, manage access controls, automate refresh schedules, and optimize performance for large datasets.
  • Work with AI tools and leverage AI technologies to enhance processes and optimize data analysis workflows.
  • Follow organizational patterns for source and version control of Power BI files.
  • Utilize Azure DevOps as appropriate within the source and version control process.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, explain technical concepts to non-technical users, and deliver reports aligned with business goals.
  • Present complex data insights and reports to non-technical audiences and stakeholders.
  • Prepare for meetings, screen-share, and conduct working sessions, including discussions of backlog item statuses and gathering additional or changing requirements.
  • Collaborate remotely with colleagues and attend in-person meetings at State offices when required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong hands-on experience developing solutions using Microsoft Power BI.
  • Experience gathering and analyzing business and reporting requirements.
  • Experience translating business requirements into reports, visualizations, and data models.
  • Ability to identify relevant data sources and attributes required for reporting and analytics.
  • Intermediate-level Excel proficiency, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
  • Ability to reverse engineer existing Excel-based and manual business processes to determine underlying business requirements.
  • Strong data modeling skills, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  • Experience developing reusable semantic data models within Power BI.
  • Experience implementing row-level and column-level security within Power BI semantic models.
  • Experience creating table relationships and optimizing data structures.
  • Familiarity with Tabular Editor Best Practice Analyzer and DAX best practices.
  • Experience connecting Power BI to APIs, BigQuery, ArcGIS map and feature layers, SQL databases, Excel files, and streaming datasets.
  • Experience with data extraction and transformation.
  • Strong proficiency in DAX, including calculated columns, measures, and custom calculations.
  • Experience designing and developing interactive Power BI reports and dashboards.
  • Experience with slicers, visuals, drill-through functionality, streaming visuals, and ArcGIS visuals.
  • Experience optimizing Power BI reports and underlying data models for performance.
  • Experience using DAX Studio and built-in Power BI performance tools.
  • Proficiency with Power BI Service, including report publishing, access controls, automated refresh schedules, and performance optimization for large datasets.
  • Ability to follow organizational source-control and version-control standards for Power BI files.
  • Experience utilizing Azure DevOps as part of source and version control processes.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts and complex data insights to non-technical users and stakeholders.
  • Experience preparing for meetings, screen-sharing, conducting working sessions, discussing backlog item statuses, and gathering changing requirements.
  • Contractor must perform the work within the State of Colorado
  • Ability to attend occasional in-person meetings at State offices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Location in the Denver Metropolitan Area.
  • Experience working with Google AI tools.
  • Experience leveraging AI technologies to improve processes and optimize data analysis workflows.
  • Experience with ArcGIS maps, feature layers, and ArcGIS visuals.
  • Experience with streaming datasets and streaming visuals.
  • Experience collaborating with integration teams and established integration patterns.
