Summary

Project Overview

The client is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to replace manual, error-prone EMR data acquisition processes with scalable automated workflows.

This role will focus on designing, building, monitoring, and maintaining browser and desktop automation solutions that retrieve schedules, medical records, and related documents from multiple EMR platforms. The automation framework will support cloud-based data pipelines and ensure reliable, accurate, and timely data delivery for downstream reporting and analytics systems.

The client is open to two levels of expertise:

  • Senior Automation Engineer Consultant – Strong hands-on automation engineer with Playwright, RPA, cloud, and monitoring experience.
  • Senior Independent Consultant / Platform Owner – A highly experienced consultant capable of designing, leading, and owning the complete automation platform end-to-end.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain Playwright-based browser automation solutions for multiple web-based EMR systems.
  • Develop desktop and RDP-based automation workflows for EMR platforms that do not provide web interfaces.
  • Automate login processes, session management, authentication workflows, and system navigation.
  • Create automated processes for schedule downloads, medical record retrieval, chart extraction, and document acquisition.
  • Implement file validation, metadata capture, naming conventions, error handling, and quality controls.
  • Deliver acquired files into Google Cloud Storage (GCS) staging environments using defined structures and metadata standards.
  • Schedule, execute, and monitor automated jobs and workflows.
  • Build failure detection, alerting, retry mechanisms, and automated recovery processes.
  • Maintain comprehensive logs, audit trails, execution history, screenshots, and performance metrics.
  • Update automation configurations, selectors, and credential management processes as source systems evolve.
  • Scale and extend automation capabilities across additional EMR platforms and organizational locations.
  • Ensure reliability, consistency, and operational efficiency across the automation ecosystem.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience building browser-based automation solutions.
  • Strong experience with Playwright (preferred); experience with Selenium or Puppeteer will also be considered.
  • Experience automating desktop applications, remote desktop environments, or RPA workflows.
  • Strong scripting and development skills using Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, or similar languages.
  • Experience handling authentication workflows, session management, MFA processes, and credential management.
  • Experience implementing resilient automation frameworks with robust error handling and recovery mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform), particularly Google Cloud Storage (GCS).
  • Experience with job scheduling and orchestration tools such as cron, Cloud Scheduler, Airflow, or similar technologies.
  • Strong understanding of logging, monitoring, auditing, and operational support practices.
