Chief Engineer - JLL

What this job involves: The Chief Engineer is a key on-site leadership role responsible for ensuring the reliable, safe, and efficient operation of all building infrastructure and equipment supporting manufacturing operations. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with people leadership to drive operational excellence, maintain critical systems, manage risk, and support JLL's commitment to exceptional client service and continuous improvement.

What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Lead, coach, and develop the on-site engineering team, including hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Oversee preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance for facility infrastructure and production equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, and systems-related issues impacting operations.
  • Manage engineering operating budgets and support capital planning initiatives.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors, ensuring work quality, safety compliance, and schedule adherence.
  • Respond to emergencies and service calls to minimize downtime and risk.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, property teams, and internal stakeholders while delivering strong customer service.

Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of related experience, including Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or similar leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing technical teams.
  • Universal CFC (EPA) Certification.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems and industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and work in physically demanding environments.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Trade school education, union apprenticeship, military training, or college degree.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing or industrial maintenance operations.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and water treatment processes.
  • Familiarity with energy management, sustainability, and efficiency initiatives.
  • Project management experience supporting capital or infrastructure upgrades.
  • Strong safety leadership and technical training facilitation skills.

Location: Tampa, FL

Work Shift: 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, with flexibility to adjust hours as needed.
