Job Description
Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining an organization's server infrastructure, including hardware and software, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability by configuring, installing, troubleshooting, and upgrading servers, while collaborating with other IT teams to support system needs and address user issues; essentially acting as a technical expert for server operations within the organization.
Key responsibilities:
Server configuration and management:
Installing, configuring, and managing server hardware and software - Microsoft Environment.
Performance monitoring and optimization:
Regularly monitoring server performance metrics to identify bottlenecks and implement improvements to optimize system efficiency.
Troubleshooting and issue resolution:
Diagnosing and resolving server-related issues, including hardware failures, software conflicts, and network connectivity problems.
Security management:
Implementing and maintaining robust security measures on servers to protect against unauthorized access and cyber threats.
Backup and disaster recovery:
Developing and executing data backup strategies to ensure data integrity and enable rapid recovery in case of emergencies.
Capacity planning:
Assessing future server requirements and proactively planning for necessary hardware upgrades or scaling to accommodate growing demands.
Virtualization and cloud technologies:
Utilizing virtualization platforms and cloud services to manage server environments efficiently.
Patch management:
Applying software updates and security patches to servers in a timely manner.
Documentation and reporting:
Maintaining detailed documentation of server configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Collaboration with other teams:
Working closely with network engineers, application developers, and system administrators to ensure smooth integration and support.
Required Skills/Technical expertise:
Strong understanding of server operating systems (Windows, Linux), network protocols, hardware components, and virtualization technologies.
Scripting and automation:
Proficiency in scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash) to automate repetitive tasks and streamline server management.
Problem-solving abilities:
Excellent analytical skills to diagnose complex technical issues and identify effective solutions.
Security awareness:
Knowledge of security best practices to protect server environments from cyber threats.
Communication skills:
Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Education and experience:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
Several years of hands-on experience managing server infrastructure in a production environment.

- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in server engineering and architecture, with at least 8 years in a team lead or supervisory capacity.
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience in designing and implementing enterprise-level server solutions, virtualization platforms, and cloud integration.
- Operations: Demonstrated ability to perform hands-on troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of complex server environments.
- Government Compliance: Deep understanding of local and state government security standards, regulatory compliance, and procurement processes.
- Leadership: Strong project management skills with the ability to mentor junior engineers and coordinate between technical teams and stakeholders.
