Description

SAIC is seeking a Software Solutions Engineer to support Space Systems Command's (SSC) Kronos Family of Systems (FoS) in advancing Operational Command and Control (C2) and Space Battle Management (BM). This role requires an experienced engineer who can work across application and enterprise perspectives, integrating new capabilities with legacy systems while modernizing the BMC3I software ecosystem. You will shape solutions across architecture, interfaces, data, infrastructure, cybersecurity, DevSecOps, and mission applications while preserving critical operations.

This position is based in El Segundo, CA and supports the Horizon program within the Space C2 Program Management Office, working closely with the Space Systems Command's BMC3 Program Office.

Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a software engineering and integration focal point for BMC3I, aligning new development, commercial solutions, and modernization with existing Programs of Record, legacy systems, architecture, interfaces, data services, infrastructure, and operational requirements.
Evaluate end-to-end software solutions to determine how new applications, services, data products, APIs, and platform capabilities integrate with or replace legacy components while preserving mission continuity and interoperability.
Develop technical integration roadmaps defining modernization increments, legacy dependencies, interface transitions, data migrations, risks, decision points, and production transition activities.
Support software architecture and design, including capability decomposition, service boundaries, APIs and interfaces, data flows, event-driven integration, cloud/platform services, deployment patterns, and distributed-system dependencies.
Collaborate with developers, engineers, architects, cybersecurity and DevSecOps teams, testers, Product and Program Managers, vendors, operators, and legacy-system owners to resolve cross-system integration issues.
Assess modernization opportunities to refactor, rehost, replatform, replace, or retire legacy components; reduce technical debt; and move toward modular, scalable, secure, and supportable architectures.
Coordinate capabilities through development, CI/CD, integration, testing, cybersecurity assessment, deployment, production transition, and sustainment while maintaining configuration and release traceability.
Assess integration readiness across applications, APIs, data models, messaging, infrastructure, identity, cybersecurity, observability, performance, resiliency, and mission-system interfaces.
Plan data migration and interoperability between legacy and modernized systems, including schema mapping, transformation, interface compatibility, authoritative data sources, synchronization, and sequencing.
Apply Agile, DevSecOps, and Software Acquisition Pathway practices to support iterative delivery, automated testing, CI/CD, platform modernization, and rapid operator feedback.
Use Jira, Confluence, and related tools to maintain traceability of requirements, architecture decisions, interfaces, technical debt, defects, risks, dependencies, test findings, releases, and modernization status.
Advise government leadership on architecture, modernization priorities, legacy transition, integration risks, sequencing, and technical tradeoffs across BMC3I.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 14+ years, Master's with 12+ years, or PhD with 9+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, computer science, systems engineering, architecture, integration, or related DoD mission systems.
Strong knowledge of software engineering, architecture, systems integration, API/interface design, data integration, testing, configuration management, and software lifecycle management.
Experience integrating new software into enterprise or mission systems containing legacy applications, shared services, data dependencies, external interfaces, and operational constraints.
Ability to analyze software at the system-of-systems level and translate mission and program requirements into practical integration and modernization approaches.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Jira, Confluence, and related collaboration and documentation tools.
Must have an in-scope security background investigation (T5), adjudicated for SCI eligibility and rolled in the Continuous Vetting program (if applicable).
Must be willing to be nominated for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information and Special Access Programs and consent to a polygraph examination (as required).

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience modernizing legacy DoD software through refactoring, rehosting, re-platforming, cloud migration, API enablement, data migration, service decomposition, or retirement.
Experience with cloud platforms, containers, Kubernetes, microservices, RESTful APIs, event architectures, infrastructure as code, automated CI/CD, observability, and secure software supply chains.
Knowledge of DoD software acquisition, including the Software Acquisition Pathway and DoDI 5000.87, with experience supporting rapid software delivery within a Program of Record.
Experience integrating commercial or non-traditional software into government architectures, legacy systems, and operational environments.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional integration across software, systems engineering, cybersecurity, test, platform, operational, and government teams.
Experience evaluating technical debt, dependencies, sustainment, performance, scalability, resilience, cybersecurity, and lifecycle impacts in modernization strategies.
Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex architecture, modernization, integration, and technical tradeoffs to engineers and senior leaders.

Why Join the BMC3I Team?
BMC3I depends on resilient, interoperable software that can evolve while supporting critical operations. As a Software Solutions Engineer, you will help transition legacy capabilities toward a modernized ecosystem by connecting new development, commercial technologies, Programs of Record, and operational mission systems. This role directly influences BMC3I architecture, integration, modernization, and fielding.

Target salary range: $200,001 - $240,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
