Job Overview
We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer – Jira Platform Engineer to serve as the technical lead for an enterprise Jira platform within Atlassian Government Cloud (AGC).
This role will be responsible for Jira administration, configuration, automation, integrations, security, and platform engineering while helping the organization consolidate Agile planning and collaboration tools into Jira.
The ideal candidate combines strong Jira engineering expertise with knowledge of Agile methodologies, DevSecOps, enterprise integrations, and platform migrations.
Key Responsibilities
Jira Administration & Engineering
Administer, configure, and optimize Jira SaaS / Atlassian Government Cloud.
Design and maintain custom workflows, issue types, screens, fields, and automation rules.
Manage user permissions, roles, groups, and security schemes.
Monitor Jira licensing, user growth, and platform utilization.
Support license renewal, optimization, and subscription planning.
Evaluate and integrate appropriate Atlassian Marketplace apps/plugins.
System Integration & Development
Design and maintain integrations between Jira, GitLab, ServiceNow, and other enterprise platforms.
Develop integrations using REST APIs, webhooks, middleware, Okta, and scripting.
Automate data synchronization and traceability from planning through development and release.
Troubleshoot and optimize integration pipelines for performance, security, and scalability.
Work with infrastructure and cybersecurity teams to ensure integrations meet security and compliance requirements.
Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and best practices.
Agile & DevSecOps Enablement
Translate Agile practices into effective Jira configurations and workflows.
Support Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe practices across teams.
Guide and mentor Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Agile teams on Jira best practices.
Support Agile reporting and metrics including velocity, burndown, and cycle time.
Help teams transition from Azure DevOps Boards, on-prem GitLab, and hosted Jira to Jira SaaS/AGC.
Support enterprise DevSecOps and platform engineering initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
3+ years of hands-on Jira administration and/or engineering experience.
Hands-on experience developing enterprise integrations, particularly with GitLab and ServiceNow.
Proficiency with Python, PowerShell, or JavaScript.
Strong experience with REST APIs and webhooks.
Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, and/or SAFe.
Knowledge of DevSecOps principles and workflows.
Experience with enterprise migrations from Azure DevOps or similar platforms to Jira.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Atlassian Government Cloud (AGC).
Knowledge of Confluence and Bitbucket.
Experience with Atlassian Marketplace applications.
Background in DevSecOps or Platform Engineering.
Experience with security, privacy, and risk frameworks such as FISMA, SOX, and FedRAMP.
Atlassian Certified Professional (ACP-620, ACP-120, or equivalent).
