Job Description
Role Overview
Client is seeking a Platform Product Owner to own and drive the technical health, security, and stability of its e‑commerce platform. This is a newly created role designed to bring product ownership discipline to platform‑level, security‑focused initiatives.
This position is not a functional or business-facing Product Owner role. Instead, it is ideal for a Product Owner with a strong technical mindset who enjoys working on platform stability, upgrades, security requirements, and release execution rather than customer-facing features.
The initial engagement is expected to last at least six months, with a high likelihood of extension due to the volume of platform and technical initiatives underway at Rexel.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Ownership & Vision
· Act as the technical Platform Product Owner for the e‑commerce platform
· Maintain a clear platform vision, roadmap, and delivery timelines
· Own platform-level scope decisions and technical priorities
· Ensure the platform remains stable, secure, and production-ready
Security & Platform Stability
· Partner closely with security teams to deliver required platform-level security changes
· Ensure security requirements are translated into clear technical user stories
· Own and coordinate platform upgrades, patches, and configuration changes
· Ensure platform configurations are secure (e.g., backend controls, component scope, access restrictions)
· No hands-on security engineering required; work is at the platform governance and delivery level
Technical Product Ownership
· Define and manage technical user stories, acceptance criteria, and scope
· Ensure development work is properly tested (UAT) and production-ready
· Validate that platform changes meet security and stability requirements
· Drive work through completion and successful release into production
Cross‑Team Coordination & Communication
· Work closely with:
o Other Product Owners
o Product teams
o Security teams
o QA and testing teams
· Manage cross‑product dependencies and downstream impacts
· Serve as the primary point of coordination for platform-related changes
· Primary “customers” are internal product teams and security teams, not end users
Release & Delivery Management
· Drive release planning for platform upgrades, patches, and security work
· Coordinate timelines across development, testing, and release activities
· Communicate milestones, risks, and timelines clearly to stakeholders
· Blend Product Owner responsibilities with light project delivery leadership
Platform & Technology Context
· Platform: E‑commerce (SAP Hybris)
o Hybris experience is a plus, not required
o Any solid e‑commerce platform experience is acceptable
· Role focuses on maintaining and securing the existing Hybris cloud platform
· Rexel is evolving toward a microservices architecture, making platform coordination critical
Team & Working Model
· No direct reports
· Owns and works with a pod/group of developers, primarily based in India
· Requires strong coordination across time zones
· On-site presence in Dallas is required
Ideal Candidate Profile
· Product Owner with a strong technical/platform orientation
· Comfortable discussing:
o APIs
o Platform architecture concepts
o Technical dependencies
o Security requirements at a conceptual level
· Not a purely functional or business-only Product Owner
· Strong communicator who can translate technical complexity into clear direction
· Enjoys owning platform health, stability, and delivery
· Approximately 80% IT/technical focus, with awareness of functional impact
Required Qualifications
· Experience as a Product Owner or similar role on technical or platform-focused initiatives
· Experience working with engineering teams and defining technical user stories
· Strong stakeholder communication and coordination skills
· Experience supporting releases, upgrades, and production deployments
Preferred Qualifications
· E‑commerce platform experience (Hybris or similar)
· Experience working with offshore development teams
· Exposure to platform security initiatives (not hands-on security tools)
Why This Role Is Unique
This role exists to bring product ownership, vision, and accountability to technical platform initiatives that are often run informally by technical leads. It is ideal for a Product Owner who wants to operate behind the scenes, ensuring the platform runs securely and reliably while enabling product teams to move faster.
