What the Candidate Will Do ----
Technical Leadership & Strategy
1. Own the technical strategy and roadmap for Backend Testing Infrastructure Platform
2. Lead development of services responsible for backend testing
3. Ensure systems are scalable, reliable, observable, and performant at large scale
4. Drive architectural clarity across different systems
5. Partner with Product team and Key stakeholders for Prioritization
Team Leadership & Development
1. Hire, grow, and develop a team of talented engineers, including senior and staff-level engineers
2. Provide technical guidance, coaching, and career development support
3. Establish clear ownership, operational excellence, and strong engineering fundamentals
4. Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
Cross-Functional Collaboration
1. Partner closely with Product, and Platform teams
2. Align technical roadmaps across multiple teams and organizational boundaries
3. Drive clarity around ownership, interfaces, and system responsibilities
Execution & Operational Excellence
1. Deliver high-impact infrastructure that improves product relevance and user experience
2. Improve system reliability, latency, observability, and debugability
3. Establish strong engineering processes around design reviews, operational readiness, and incident response
4. Ensure the team executes effectively against both foundational investments and product-enabling work
\\-\\-\\-\\- Basic Qualifications ----
1. 9+ years of software engineering experience
2. 3+ years of engineering management experience
3. Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale
4. Experience leading projects involving backend systems, infrastructure, or platform development
5. Strong technical background in system architecture and backend engineering
6. Experience hiring, developing, and managing engineers
\\-\\-\\-\\- Preferred Qualifications ----
1. Experience building platform or infrastructure teams
2. Experience building high-scale backend systems serving large user bases
3. Experience improving system reliability, performance, and observability
4. Experience defining technical strategy and long-term architectural direction
5. Experience managing senior or staff-level engineers
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$232,000 per year - USD$258,000 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$232,000 per year - USD$258,000 per year.
For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp.
