Role : Sr Backend Engineer - Telematics & Data Platforms (Google Cloud Platform)

Overview / Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate high-throughput backend systems that ingest, process, and serve large volumes of telematics data from connected vehicle fleets. This role operates at the intersection of distributed systems, data engineering, and API development, delivering reliable, low-latency services for fleet intelligence platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs to process and expose telematics data (GPS, trip events, driver behavior, vehicle diagnostics, sensor telemetry)
• Build and maintain real-time and batch data pipelines for high-volume vehicle event streams using messaging systems such as Pub/Sub or Kafka
• Architect and optimize data access layers across multiple storage systems including relational databases, data warehouses, caches, and wide-column stores
• Collaborate with data teams to design queries, stored procedures, and reporting patterns that meet latency and throughput requirements
• Implement data aggregation, transformation, and enrichment logic including time-series rollups and geo-spatial calculations
• Establish data contracts and schema evolution strategies to ensure compatibility across systems
• Integrate backend services with cloud infrastructure using event-driven architectures, serverless functions, and container orchestration
• Implement observability practices including logging, tracing, and metrics to ensure system reliability
• Apply security best practices including authorization, secrets management, and data privacy controls
• Participate in agile development processes including design reviews, code reviews, and architectural discussions
• Support high availability systems through monitoring and on-call rotations

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years of IT experience with 5+ years in software development
• Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform (Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, IAM, Cloud Functions)
• Experience building scalable backend systems and APIs (REST or gRPC)
• Experience with big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Dataflow, or BigQuery
• Experience developing or integrating AI/ML models or rule-based systems
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (or advanced proficiency in one)
• Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform services such as Vertex AI, Dataflow, Cloud Composer, and BigQuery ML
• Programming languages: Kotlin, Java, Python, or similar backend language
• Frameworks: Spring Boot, REST API design, gRPC
• Data technologies: BigQuery, PostgreSQL, Redis, Bigtable, Kafka or Pub/Sub
• Infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines
• Practices: TDD, data pipeline patterns, database performance tuning, API versioning
