Summary

Description

A leading infrastructure and transportation services group is seeking a Senior Power BI Developer to design and own our enterprise semantic layer and deliver high-impact reporting for the Enterprise Reporting & Data Warehouse (ERDW) platform. This hands-on role sets the standard for data modeling, DAX, and report performance-turning complex data from Databricks and other sources into accurate, trusted insights that drive executive business decisions.

Keys to the Role:

  • Hands-on experience with enterprise data platforms like Databricks or Snowflake.
  • Proficiency in semantic modeling and writing advanced DAX queries.
  • Proven track record of designing and deploying paginated reports (pixel-perfect reporting).
  • Direct experience executing full-scale ecosystem migrations to Databricks and Power BI.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Semantic Layer & DAX: Design enterprise-grade star-schema semantic models. Build advanced DAX measures, calculation logic, time intelligence, and calculation groups.
  • Reporting & UX: Build interactive dashboards and paginated, print-ready reports (Power BI Report Builder/PBIRS via XMLA endpoints). Apply WCAG accessibility and responsive design.
  • CI/CD & DevOps: Manage Power BI projects using PBIP format in source control (Azure DevOps/GitHub). Maintain Git-integrated workspaces, deployment pipelines, and automated validation.
  • Performance & Governance: Optimize performance via VertiPaq analysis, query folding, aggregations, incremental refresh, composite models, and DAX tuning. Enforce RLS/OLS, sensitivity labels, capacity management, and endorsements.
  • Data Integration & Strategy: Partner with Data Engineering to shape data from Databricks and Microsoft Fabric using Power Query/M and SQL. Define BI standards, document data lineage, mentor developers, and leverage AI-assisted development tools.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Track Record: 5-7 years dedicated to Power BI development, backed by 15+ years of broad BI/reporting experience (e.g., SSRS, SSAS, Cognos, Tableau, Crystal Reports, SAP Business Objects).
  • Certifications (Preferred): Microsoft PL-300, DP-600, or Azure DP-900.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Core BI: Expert in Star-Schema/Dimensional Modeling, DAX, Power Query (M), SQL/T-SQL, and Power BI Service administration (Premium/Capacity).
  • Modern Stack: Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, Direct Lake), Databricks, and Azure Synapse.
  • DevOps & External Tools: Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, ALM Toolkit, Best Practice Analyzer, PBIP, Git, and CI/CD automation.
  • Reporting Types: Multi-source dashboards, paginated (RDL) reports, and dataset-based reporting.
  • Domain Knowledge: Finance, construction, equipment, or safety domains a strong plus.

SOFT SKILLS

  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and technical communication abilities.
  • Highly adaptable with strong cross-functional collaboration and time management.
