What You’ll Do

• Design and deliver cross-platform capabilities — shared APIs, orchestration layers, event-driven integrations, and reusable components — that eliminate repeated point-to-point work across initiatives.
• Build and own production-grade backend services with a focus on reliability, observability, and extensibility.
• Drive initiatives through the full engineering lifecycle — coding, code reviews, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
• Integrate event-driven architectures — consuming, publishing, and designing event contracts across distributed systems.
• Engage data platforms and datastores to enable analytics, reporting, and operational intelligence across CPD-engaged programs.
• Identify and close integration gaps between enterprise platforms and initiative-specific delivery teams.
• Embed with platform teams across Amex Tech landscape to understand integration points, capability gaps, and opportunities for shared engineering investment.
• Prototype accelerators and tooling that reduce delivery friction across programs — reference implementations, integration scaffolds, and governance-compliant patterns.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers embedded on partner teams.
• Collaborate with Solution Architects and Delivery Managers to bridge the gap between architecture intent and engineering execution.

Qualifications
Required

• 8+ years of full-stack software engineering experience, with strong emphasis on backend systems.
• Proficiency in Java/Python/Node.js (including equivalent enterprise frameworks); comfortable owning a service end-to-end from API contract to deployment.
• Cloud platform experience (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or similar) — compute, serverless functions, messaging queues, managed databases, and API gateway patterns; familiarity with cloud-native deployment.
• Event-driven systems experience — designing and consuming events in distributed architectures; experience with a major messaging platform (Kafka, Kinesis, or comparable).
• Data platform and database fluency — relational and NoSQL datastores; ability to design and query data models for operational and analytical use cases.
• Enterprise API navigation — experience consuming and integrating with large-scale enterprise APIs; understanding of REST, OAuth, idempotency, and contract-first API design.
• Distributed systems fundamentals- service decomposition, eventual consistency, retry and DLQ patterns, audit and traceability by design
