Role Overview
We are seeking a Lead Scrum Master to join a team of qualified, diverse professionals supporting a high-visibility enterprise modernization initiative. The ideal candidate will guide and elevate Agile delivery across multiple teams, ensuring consistent application of SAFe principles and Scrum best practices. This role will play a pivotal part in driving team performance, optimizing delivery processes, and enabling the successful integration of legacy systems with modern platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mature Scrum practices across the program, coaching and enabling multiple Agile teams operating within a SAFe environment.
- Facilitate all core Scrum ceremonies for assigned teams, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Coordinate with Product Owners to manage and prioritize product backlogs, ensuring clarity of requirements and alignment to roadmap goals.
- Support development of program increment (PI) plans and ensure teams are prepared for PI planning activities.
- Identify, track, and remove impediments to maintain steady team progress and improve overall team delivery velocity.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by monitoring team performance metrics and promoting Agile best practices.
- Serve as the primary Agile delivery point of contact for work prioritization and process optimization across cross-functional teams.
- Partner with the Release Train Engineer (RTE) and PMO leadership to ensure transparency and accurate status reporting.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between technical teams, product stakeholders, and external partners.
- Support the integration of legacy systems with modern platforms by helping teams navigate complex workflows and system interdependencies.
Required Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 8 years of professional experience, including 5+ years serving as a Scrum Master in large enterprise environments. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. Demonstrated experience leading multiple Agile teams simultaneously in a SAFe or comparable scaled Agile framework. Proven ability to remove impediments and guide teams toward predictable delivery.
Education: A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, a Master's degree with a minimum of 6 years, or a PhD with a minimum of 3 years is required.
Basic Qualifications: - Demonstrated experience leading multiple Agile teams simultaneously in a SAFe or comparable scaled Agile framework.
- Handson facilitation expertise in all Scrum ceremonies, backlog management, and Agile workflow optimization.
- Proven ability to remove impediments, drive process improvements, and guide teams toward higher velocity and predictable delivery.
- Strong understanding of Agile metrics and tools (e.g., Jira, VersionOne, Azure DevOps) and how to apply them for transparency and decision making.
- Excellent communication, leadership, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within complex environments involving legacy system integration and multiteam dependencies.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (ACSM), or comparable Agile certifications.
- Experience supporting system modernization initiatives, cloud migrations, or hybrid application ecosystems.
- Prior experience supporting large, multi-year federal or defense sector programs.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience mentoring junior Scrum Masters or contributing to an Agile Center of Excellence.
- A Master's degree in a related field.
- Active or prior Public Trust clearance.
