Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with a strong Web Application Development / Full-Stack focus to support a long-term enterprise engagement with Avangrid, a leading U.S. energy and utilities company.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of professional web application development experience and strong hands-on expertise across JavaScript, Java, JSP, Oracle Database, web services, system integrations, and modern web development frameworks.

This is a hands-on development role requiring the ability to work across the full software development lifecycle, from technical design and development through testing, deployment, go-live, production support, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enterprise-level web applications.

• Build highly interactive web user interfaces using JavaScript and modern JavaScript techniques.

• Develop and maintain backend functionality using Java and JSP.

• Develop applications across the UI, business logic, backend services, and database layers.

• Design and implement web services and application interfaces.

• Develop system-to-system data exchange solutions using:

  • Web services

  • Database links

  • File transfers

  • File-loading scripts

  • Other enterprise integration mechanisms

• Develop applications with significant interaction with Oracle Database and relational databases.

• Build and maintain reliable, highly available back-office applications.

• Implement responsive web applications and user-role/access-control functionality.

• Support geographic/geolocation-related application functionality where required.

• Troubleshoot application, database, integration, and production issues.

• Participate in technical design, development documentation, testing, deployments, and go-live activities.

• Work collaboratively with technical teams, business stakeholders, and client representatives.

• Follow established Git/SVN and source-code management practices.

• Proactively identify opportunities to improve application usability, performance, reliability, and overall user experience.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in Web Application Development

• Strong hands-on JavaScript development experience

• Strong experience with Java and JSP

• Strong understanding of web application architecture

• Hands-on experience with Oracle Database

• Full-stack development experience across:

  • Front-end/UI

  • Business/Application layer

  • Backend services

  • Database layer

• Experience developing and consuming Web Services

• Experience implementing enterprise application/system interfaces

• Experience with data exchange, database links, file transfers, and file-loading processes

• Experience developing applications with substantial relational database interaction

• Experience working in high-availability/reliable enterprise environments

• Experience with Git, SVN, or similar source-code repositories

• Experience with modern web development frameworks and technologies

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

• Strong communication and collaboration skills

• Ability to work independently and proactively

Industry Experience

Experience in the Energy, Utilities, or related industries is a strong plus.

Experience supporting large enterprise environments with complex applications, integrations, databases, and high-availability requirements will be highly valued.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Senior Full-Stack Web Engineer who can take ownership of development assignments from initial design through production deployment and ongoing support.

You should be comfortable working across both frontend and backend technologies, solving complex technical problems, and proactively recommending improvements to application usability, performance, reliability, and design.
