Job Title : Data Center Installation Technician DC smart hands
Location : Santa Clara, CA ( Onsite from day 1 )
Work Hours : Minimum 40 hours/week
Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Data Center Installation Technician to support rack and cage installations within a data center environment.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for physically installing equipment, performing structured cabling, conducting basic testing, and ensuring accurate documentation.
This role requires strong attention to detail, hands-on technical skills, and effective communication.
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Receive and verify racks, cages, and equipment prior to installation
- Position and secure racks or cabinets on raised floors or slab environments
- Assemble cage structures including panels, doors, locks, and associated hardware
- Perform racking and stacking of equipment, including bolting/unbolting and working in confined spaces (under cages, crawl spaces)
- Install and mount servers, switches, PDUs, and other hardware components
- Route and organize power, copper, and fiber cabling to ensure proper airflow and maintainability
- Connect power and network connections to designated circuits, patch panels, and cross-connects
- Accurately label equipment, ports, cables, and rack units
- Perform basic testing, validation, and power-on checks post-installation
- Document installation details including serial numbers, configurations, and completion status
- Follow all safety, security, and access control procedures
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with floor layout planning, measurement, and rack placement
- Support cage build-outs and ensure proper clearances
- Participate in deinstallations, upgrades, and move/add/change (MAC) activities
- Coordinate with remote teams, network engineers, and other stakeholders as needed
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured procedures
- Hands-on experience with data center hardware installation and cabling
- Familiarity with copper and fiber cabling standards
- Ability to lift and handle heavy equipment safely
- Comfortable working in confined spaces (crawl spaces, under raised floors)
- Basic understanding of power distribution and network connectivity
- Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Ability to document work accurately and clearly
- Familiarity with basic installation tools (preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in data center environments
- Experience with rack/cage installations and structured cabling
- Basic troubleshooting and testing knowledge
Soft Skills
- Strong communication skills (mandatory)
- Team-oriented with a proactive approach
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
