Leidos is seeking an Internal Communications intern with foundational software development knowledge to support technical communications, stakeholder engagement, and internal/external messaging efforts. This role bridges the gap between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders by translating complex software and engineering concepts into clear, concise, and compelling communications. This position is full-time, onsite in Reston, VA for 3 months.
The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree in Communications, Technical Writing, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field and possesses both strong writing skills and a working understanding of software development concepts.

Key Responsibilities- Translate technical software and system information into clear written and visual communications
- Support development of internal communications, technical briefs, white papers, presentations, and executive summaries
- Collaborate with software engineers and program teams to gather technical information
- Develop visual aids such as infographics, workflow diagrams, and slide decks
- Assist in maintaining internal knowledge repositories and documentation platforms
- Support social media or digital communications related to technical initiatives
- Ensure consistency of messaging and alignment with organizational branding standards
- Lead development of internal plan focused on building SW developer community, including events, engagements, speaking opportunities, etc.
Required Qualifications- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Communications, Technical Writing, Journalism, Public Relations, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic understanding of software development concepts (e.g., SDLC, Agile, APIs, cloud computing, cybersecurity principles, AI coding)
- Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, C++, JavaScript) at the project level
- Ability to translate technical concepts into language appropriate for diverse audiences
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

Preferred Qualifications- Experience writing technical documentation or user guides
- Exposure to Agile development environments
- Experience with content management systems or collaboration tools (e.g., Confluence, SharePoint)
- Basic knowledge of graphic design or visual communication tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)

Pay Range:Pay Range $41,600.00 - $75,200.00
