AS/400 (IBM i) RPG Programmer – Lead
Location: Onsite – Hartford, Connecticut

Job Description

We are looking for a Lead AS/400 (IBM i) RPG Programmer who actually knows what they are doing and does not panic when they see green screens. This is an onsite role in Hartford, CT, supporting enterprise systems for Aetna.

You will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and modernizing applications on the IBM i platform while guiding other developers and keeping production from catching fire.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain applications using AS/400 / iSeries / IBM i

• Write and support programs using modern RPG (ILE / Free / SQLRPGLE)

• Lead development efforts and provide technical guidance to team members

• Work with DB2 for i, including database design, queries, and performance tuning

• Perform system operations, job monitoring, and production support

• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application and system issues efficiently

• Participate in full SDLC: requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and support

• Support and contribute to modernization initiatives (legacy to modern RPG, integration, refactoring)

• Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to deliver reliable solutions

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience with AS/400 / IBM i / iSeries

• Proficiency in modern RPG programming

• Solid knowledge of DB2 for i

• Experience with system operations and production support

• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills

• Experience working through a full SDLC

• Ability to work onsite and lead technical efforts

Nice to Have

• Experience modernizing legacy RPG applications

• Prior experience in healthcare or enterprise environments

• Strong documentation and communication skills
