Job Description
 
The Risk Consultant will support clients in maintaining Workers'' Compensation Qualified Self-Insurance status and compliance with monopolistic state insurance requirements by managing annual and quarterly regulatory filings across multiple states. This role requires extensive experience with state reporting requirements, regulatory compliance, client communication, and deadline-driven filing processes. The ideal candidate will have experience working within employer risk management, HR, payroll, insurance brokerage, consulting firms, or state insurance/labor departments.
 

Skills

  • 10+ years of experience in Workers'' Compensation, Risk Management, Insurance Compliance, or Regulatory Reporting.
  • Experience conducting annual and quarterly state filings for Workers'' Compensation Qualified Self-Insurance and/or monopolistic state fund requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state reporting requirements and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience collecting and validating payroll, employee hours, class codes, loss runs, financial statements, and related documentation.
  • Strong client communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with experience maintaining filing trackers and reporting schedules.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and deadline management skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn and navigate multiple state reporting portals.
  • Experience with Origami, Risk-Connect, Power BI, or similar risk management systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage annual and quarterly state reporting requirements to maintain Workers'' Compensation Qualified Self-Insurance status and compliance with monopolistic state fund regulations.
  • Maintain detailed reporting calendars and ensure all regulatory deadlines are met across multiple states.
  • Request, collect, review, and validate payroll information, employee hours, class codes, financial statements, loss runs, actuarial reports, and other required documentation.
  • Follow up with clients, TPAs, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely receipt of required information.
  • Prepare, review, and submit filings through various state regulatory web portals.
  • Guide clients through certification, officer sign-off, payment requirements, and filing completion.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of all filing activities, supporting documents, and compliance records.
  • Coordinate entity additions and updates within state self-insurance programs as required.
  • Review surety bonds and security requirements with individual states and coordinate updates when necessary.
  • Submit actuarial reports and additional supporting documentation requested by state regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor filing status, resolve outstanding issues, and proactively manage compliance risks.
  • Communicate regularly with clients regarding filing requirements, deadlines, and compliance status.
  • Support continuous process improvements for filing workflows, tracking systems, and documentation practices.
  • Collaborate with internal consulting teams to ensure accurate and timely client deliverables.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor''s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in Workers'' Compensation, Risk Consulting, Insurance Compliance, Risk Management, HR, Payroll, or Regulatory Reporting.
  • Proven experience managing multi-state annual and quarterly Workers'' Compensation filings.
  • Strong understanding of Qualified Self-Insurance programs and monopolistic state fund reporting requirements.
  • Experience working with employers, insurance brokers, consulting firms, TPAs, or state insurance/labor departments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and spreadsheet-based reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced remote environment.
