Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Power BI Developer to support a long-term public sector initiative with the Mississippi Department of Education, under the Office of Technology and Strategic Services. This is a fully remote contract opportunity for a senior-level professional with deep expertise in business intelligence, analytics, and enterprise reporting solutions.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical capabilities, analytical thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prototype, design, develop, and publish Power BI reports and dashboards
• Develop and maintain Power BI data models using best practices
• Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and dashboard-level security controls
• Integrate dashboards into applications using Power BI Embedded
• Collaborate with Business Analysts to gather and refine analytics/reporting requirements
• Conduct peer code reviews and provide guidance to BI team members
• Troubleshoot reporting issues and optimize report performance
• Create and modify database tables and views
• Review execution plans and optimize SQL queries
• Implement dashboard security aligned with defined access control standards
• Follow Agile/Scrum development practices
• Evaluate and support self-service reporting tools
• Estimate work effort and deliver within established timelines
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders and technical teams
• Manage multiple assignments in a dynamic environment

Required Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate the following minimum qualifications to be considered:

• Bachelor's Degree
• Minimum 7 years of experience in Business Intelligence, reporting, and analytics
• Strong hands-on experience with Power BI including:
  • M Query
  • DAX
  • Data Modeling
  • Row-Level Security
• Experience developing reports and dashboards using business analytics tools
• Strong SQL skills, preferably with SQL Server
• Experience working with multiple data sources
• Strong analytical skills for translating data into actionable insights
• Experience working within Agile methodology
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Foundational knowledge of Microsoft 365 platform including Exchange, Azure AD, and Azure ecosystem
• Understanding of security concepts including access control and data protection
• Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Certification
