Summary

Job Description

At American Express, our Global Commercial Services (GCS) business powers millions of businesses worldwide. Within GCS Marketing, the AIM (Analytics, Investment & Marketing Enablement) team serves as the analytical engine driving profitable growth, smarter investments, and differentiated customer value.

We are a high-impact, fast-moving team that blends advanced data science, deep business context, and innovation to influence strategy at scale. If you're excited about solving complex problems, building production-grade models, and shaping how we engage customers-this is your opportunity to make a measurable difference.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

As a Senior Manager, Data Science, you will lead the development of next-generation decision science solutions that power Expense Management growth and customer engagement strategies.

You will:
  • Design and deploy advanced machine learning models to optimize customer targeting, eligibility, and propensity segmentation
  • Drive end-to-end data science solutions-from problem framing and feature engineering to model deployment and performance monitoring
  • Enhance commercial data ecosystems, identifying new data signals and features that unlock incremental business value
  • Partner closely with marketing, product, and strategy teams to translate business needs into scalable analytical solutions
  • Influence acquisition and engagement strategies through data-driven insights and experimentation
  • Champion model governance and responsible AI practices, ensuring models meet enterprise risk and compliance standards
  • Communicate complex findings clearly to senior stakeholders, shaping decision-making with actionable insights

Why This Role Matters
  • Your work will directly impact customer growth, profitability, and targeting strategy across a global portfolio
  • You'll operate at the intersection of data science, marketing, and commercial strategy
  • You'll help define how American Express leverages AI/ML for competitive advantage

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics) or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of experience in data science, decision science, or advanced analytics, ideally in financial services or a related industry
  • Proven ability to apply modern machine learning techniques to solve real-world business problems
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate ambiguous business questions into analytical frameworks
  • Hands-on experience with Python, PySpark, and SQL
  • Solid understanding of data mining, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD in a quantitative field
  • Experience building and deploying models in production environments
  • Familiarity with marketing analytics, customer targeting, or credit/risk modeling
  • Strong storytelling skills with the ability to influence non-technical stakeholders

What Sets You Apart
  • You think like an owner and care about business impact-not just model accuracy
  • You're curious, experimental, and constantly exploring new techniques and approaches
  • You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy turning data into strategy

Depending on factors such as business unit requirements, the nature of the position, cost and applicable laws, American Express may provide visa sponsorship for certain positions.
