Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced OpenShift/Cloud Engineer to support the engineering, operations, automation, and continuous improvement of enterprise Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offerings.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, deploying, maintaining, automating, and supporting Red Hat OpenShift environments. The role will also support application migrations and modernization initiatives, including migrating and refactoring applications into containerized workloads and microservices architectures.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, Linux, Docker/containers, CI/CD, automation, DevOps practices, and enterprise application architectures.
Key Responsibilities
Design, deploy, configure, maintain, and provide operational support for Red Hat OpenShift environments.
Support OpenShift infrastructure engineering, administration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
Work with OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) 4.6 through the latest stable version.
Support application migrations to enterprise Platform-as-a-Service offerings.
Assist development teams with migrating and refactoring existing applications into containerized workloads.
Design and support containerized applications and microservices architectures.
Manage and troubleshoot Kubernetes clusters, containers, pods, deployments, services, and related components.
Provision and maintain multi-node highly available OpenShift/Kubernetes clusters.
Perform monitoring, performance testing, capacity planning, and application deployment activities.
Automate infrastructure and application deployment processes.
Develop and maintain automation using tools such as Ansible, Python, Chef, or Puppet.
Implement and maintain automated deployment processes and DevOps practices.
Work with CI/CD tools including Git, Jenkins, or comparable technologies.
Support enterprise applications and middleware including Java, JBoss, nginx, and Node.js.
Troubleshoot complex application, infrastructure, networking, and container-platform issues.
Collaborate with application, infrastructure, security, networking, and DevOps teams.
Support production environments and participate in incident resolution and root-cause analysis.
Apply best practices for reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency.
Assist with platform upgrades, patches, configuration changes, and technology migrations.
Monitor container and pod-level performance, logging, and availability.
Maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
Communicate complex technical issues clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Share knowledge and provide training to other team members.
Stay current with OpenShift, Kubernetes, cloud, DevOps, and container technologies.
Provide technical thought leadership and recommend improvements to the organization's PaaS capabilities.
Required Skills and Experience
5+ years of overall IT/infrastructure experience.
3+ years of hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift infrastructure design, deployment, administration, and operational support.
Strong experience with OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) 4.6 through the latest stable version.
Extensive knowledge of Linux containers/Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience deploying and supporting containerized applications and microservices architectures.
2+ years of experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
Strong understanding of enterprise application architectures.
Experience with Java, JBoss, nginx, and Node.js.
Hands-on experience migrating and refactoring applications to containerized workloads.
Experience with configuration management and scripting technologies such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, and/or Python.
Experience provisioning and supporting multi-node highly available clusters.
Experience with cluster monitoring, performance testing, troubleshooting, and application deployment.
Experience with automated deployment tools and processes.
Strong understanding of DevOps concepts, tools, and practices.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools, including Git, Jenkins, or comparable technologies.
Working knowledge of networking concepts including protocols, firewalls, load balancers, and related technologies.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability and willingness to document solutions, share knowledge, and train team members.
Ability to quickly learn and adapt to the latest stable versions of OpenShift and related technologies.
Preferred Skills
Experience with VMware technologies, including vCenter, vRA, and vRO.
Experience running OpenShift on bare-metal infrastructure.
Working knowledge of SSL certificate management.
Experience working in Agile environments, including Kanban, Scrum, stand-ups, and sprints.
Knowledge of industry-leading infrastructure, cloud, container, and DevOps standards.
Experience with container- and pod-level monitoring and logging.
Experience with Dynatrace and/or QRadar.
Experience working with IBM Cloud and/or AWS.
Experience with OpenShift upgrades, platform migrations, and modernization initiatives.
Knowledge of cloud-native application architectures and best practices.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
