Description: Job Title: Automation Application SpecialistJob PurposeWe are seeking a highly motivated
Automation Application Specialist to support laboratory operations at various on-site client locations. The successful candidate will provide hands-on technical support, operational responsiveness, and subject-matter expertise aligned with each client's customized laboratory workflows. This role involves conducting key experiments to enhance lab performance, utilizing existing automated systems, instrumentation, and facilities to deliver high-quality results within established timelines.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in operating automated platforms and related instruments, as well as executing a variety of cell-based and biochemical assays (including luminescence, fluorescence, AlphaScreen, and imaging).
Key Responsibilities- Utilize integrated assay automation platforms to perform medium- to high-throughput assays and screens in collaboration with scientific teams across multiple disciplines.
- Train laboratory personnel on proper use of automation platforms and best practices to minimize avoidable errors and ensure efficient daily operations.
- Assist with programming and method development for automated workflows.
- Serve as a first-line responder for troubleshooting, error recovery, and operational issues.
- Maintain and culture immortalized and/or primary cell lines according to established protocols.
- Adapt quickly to changing priorities, timelines, and project needs.
- Manage laboratory inventories and ensure availability of consumables and reagents.
- Ensure compliance with established safety policies and laboratory procedures.
- Support equipment maintenance activities and collaborate with service providers and OEM technical teams.
- Partner with engineers and technical teams to leverage platform knowledge and reduce instrument downtime.
- Maintain required certifications and compliance in areas including health and safety, environmental standards, security, and operational procedures.
Management reserves the right to modify or assign additional duties at any time. Competencies & Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field with 2+ years of experience in laboratory automation and/or instrumentation support
OR
Associate degree with 5+ years of relevant experience. - Hands-on experience with automated laboratory equipment such as:
Tecan Fluent, Combi, BlueWasher, Cytomat, Liconic, WDII, PlateLoc, Xpeel, Cytation, Pherastar, Vspin, Echo, or similar systems. - Strong capability to work within multidisciplinary, cross-functional scientific teams.
- Proficiency in cellular and biochemical assay execution and optimization.
- Experience working with immortalized and/or primary cell culture models.
- Understanding of device networking principles and communication protocols.
- Experience with scripting or advanced programming languages is a plus
