Job Description
Must Have Technical/Functional Skills
Mainframe DB2 DBA manages, tunes, and secures DB2 databases on IBM z/OS systems, handling backup,
recovery and performance optimization. Key responsibilities include DDL/DML management, utility scheduling
(REORG, RUNSTATS), capacity planning, and troubleshooting. Required additional skills include COBOL,
CICS knowledge, SQL, JCL, and monitoring tools like OPCE.
Roles & Responsibilities
DB2 on Mainframe (Primary Responsibility)
Administer and maintain DB2 for z/OS environments including installation, configuration, and upgrades.
Perform database tuning, performance optimization, and SQL query analysis.
Manage backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery planning and execution.
Perform DB2 utilities management (REORG, RUNSTATS, COPY, LOAD, UNLOAD, etc.).
Support DB2 subsystem performance, buffer pools, logging, storage, and catalog/directory maintenance.
Ensure database availability, integrity, and security across all mainframe DB2 environments.
Provide production support including incident resolution, root-cause analysis, and performance troubleshooting.
Work closely with application development teams on schema changes, data modeling, and SQL guidance.
Implement and maintain automation, database monitoring, and proactive health checks.
Required
• Strong knowledge of DB2 for z/OS internals, utilities, performance tuning, and database administration
best practices.
• Experience working with mainframe tools such as ISPF, JCL, RACF, TSO.
• Solid understanding of backup/recovery strategies, disaster recovery, and high availability architecture.
• Proficiency in SQL, database diagnostics, and query tuning.
Preferred
• Experience with CICS, IMS, or mainframe transaction processing environments.
• Exposure to data replication technologies.
• Knowledge of Db2 Data Sharing, sysplex environments, or large enterprise deployments.
