Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, Standard Business Hours (Central/Eastern Time)
Project OverviewThe objective of this role is to
reduce and prevent damage to data center hardware components. This includes performing inspections, testing, and minor repairs to ensure critical infrastructure components remain reliable and operational within the data center environment.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as a quality assurance resource focused on minimizing hardware damage within the data center.
- Support site leadership in improving handling, storage, and packaging processes through spot audits and inspections.
- Execute and maintain procedures for identifying, validating, and segregating damaged components to ensure they are not reused.
- Identify recurring damage patterns and escalate issues impacting hardware quality.
- Support investigations related to hardware failures and participate in field quality improvement efforts.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities- Perform detailed inspection and minor repair of critical hardware components.
- Conduct Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) testing for inventory validation (~100 boards per week).
- Verify reported damaged parts to confirm actual condition (~100 parts per week).
- Carry out basic repairs, including:
- Cleaning thermal paste from CPUs
- Straightening bent connectors/pins
- Replacing missing or damaged accessories (e.g., protective covers, frames)
- Audit handling processes including ESD (electrostatic discharge) practices, storage, and packaging standards across operational areas.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a technical field
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in a technical or hardware-related role
- Working knowledge of data center hardware components such as:
- Motherboards
- Memory (DIMMs)
- Storage devices (HDD/SSD)
- Network cards and optical components
- Basic Failure Analysis (FA) capability for electronic parts
- Familiarity with common hardware defects and mechanical damage
- Ability to perform prolonged, detailed inspection work
- Experience using inspection tools (e.g., microscopes, lighting equipment)
- Proficiency in using computers for documentation and reporting
- Ability to create and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to handle and move equipment (moderate physical effort required)
Preferred Qualifications- Background in quality assurance within electronics or hardware manufacturing
- Experience troubleshooting or repairing server, storage, or networking equipment
- Familiarity with spreadsheets and basic data tracking tools
