- UX Designer
Summary
5 days on site REQUIRED in Downtown Washington, DC.
Summary
We are looking for a Senior UX/Product Designer who can take complex digital products from early discovery through polished, development-ready designs. This person should be highly hands-on and comfortable owning research, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, design systems, and final UI.
Advanced Figma experience is one of the most important requirements for this role. We need someone who works in Figma daily and can build structured, scalable product designs, not someone who primarily uses it for static mockups.
What You'll Do
- Own UX and product design from discovery through implementation.
- Partner with users, product teams, and stakeholders to understand workflows, pain points, and product requirements.
- Conduct user interviews, usability testing, and UX evaluations to inform design decisions.
- Create user journeys, information architecture, task flows, wireframes, and responsive product experiences.
- Build high-fidelity designs and interactive prototypes in Figma.
- Create and maintain reusable Figma components, variants, auto layouts, variables/tokens, and shared design libraries.
- Design complete workflows, including error states, empty states, loading states, permissions, and other edge cases.
- Help build and maintain scalable design systems and reusable UI patterns.
- Partner closely with front-end engineers to ensure designs translate accurately into development.
- Provide clear specifications around responsive behavior, interactions, accessibility, components, and content.
- Review implemented features and work with engineering to resolve design or usability issues.
- Design complex, data-heavy interfaces that may include dashboards, maps, filters, charts, tables, and location-based experiences.
- Incorporate accessibility and inclusive-design practices throughout the design process.
- Iterate on released experiences using user feedback, usability findings, and product analytics.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of UX, product design, or related experience.
- Expert-level Figma experience is required.
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Auto Layout
- Components and variants
- Interactive prototypes
- Variables and design tokens
- Shared libraries and scalable design systems
- Responsive web and mobile designs
- Must be able to demonstrate original, editable Figma work, not just screenshots or exported portfolio images.
- Portfolio showing end-to-end ownership, from initial problem definition and research through wireframes, high-fidelity design, prototyping, and implementation.
- Strong understanding of interaction design, information architecture, user flows, visual hierarchy, typography, grids, and responsive design.
- Experience conducting user research and usability testing and translating findings into product improvements.
- Experience creating or maintaining design systems and reusable component libraries.
- Understanding of accessibility and inclusive UX practices.
- Comfortable working directly with front-end developers in an Agile environment.
- Able to clearly explain design decisions, tradeoffs, and personal contributions to previous projects.
- Comfortable using AI-assisted design or productivity tools appropriately while protecting confidential information.
