Job Details

Vaco is partnering with a rapidly scaling financial firm to hire a strategic technology leader reporting directly to the CIO. This high-impact role sits at the intersection of strategy, governance, and execution—responsible for driving discipline, focus, and measurable impact across the firm’s enterprise technology portfolio, including digital platforms, cloud, data, and cybersecurity.

Role Overview

As a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the CIO, you’ll help define and mature the enterprise technology roadmap, strengthen investment governance, and ensure alignment between business priorities, risk posture, and regulatory expectations. You’ll collaborate closely with senior leaders across digital, cloud, data, and product to guide decisions that shape the firm’s next phase of modernization and growth in a cloud-first Azure environment.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Portfolio Leadership

  • Define and maintain a multi-year enterprise technology roadmap spanning digital platforms, cloud infrastructure, and data initiatives.

  • Act as the central governing body for technology investments — maintaining intake, prioritization, and approval processes to ensure transparency and ROI alignment.

  • Provide forward-looking recommendations on trade-offs and resource allocation to optimize impact across run/grow/transform categories.

  • Build and present executive and board-level materials highlighting strategy, performance, risk, and outcomes.

Technology Governance & Financial Management

  • Lead the annual technology budget cycle in partnership with Finance; consolidate CapEx funding requests, track actuals vs. plan, and manage variance reporting.

  • Develop KPIs and KRIs that measure technology maturity, compliance, and business value realization.

  • Establish frameworks and decision-making standards that ensure alignment between technology strategy, cybersecurity, and enterprise risk.

Regulatory, Risk, and Vendor Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with SEC, FINRA, SOC 2, and other regulatory frameworks; support audit readiness and documentation.

  • Partner with procurement and security teams to manage third-party risk, vendor renewals, and performance scorecards.

  • Maintain the single source of truth for major initiatives, ensuring consistency in charters, timelines, and reporting.

Operational Excellence & Leadership Enablement

  • Orchestrate CIO and senior leadership meetings, offsites, and quarterly business reviews; coordinate agendas, materials, and decision tracking.

  • Facilitate workshops to align priorities, resolve cross-functional challenges, and strengthen accountability.

  • Mentor technology leaders and managers, fostering a culture of executional excellence and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring

  • 10+ years in technology strategy, governance, or enterprise risk management within financial services, fintech, or other regulated environments.

  • Pre-partner or engagement management experience from a top-tier consulting firm strongly preferred.

  • Deep familiarity with frameworks such as NIST CSF, ISO 27001, COBIT, SOC 2, and cloud governance (Azure preferred).

  • Advanced financial modeling and analytical capabilities, with proven success managing large-scale technology budgets.

  • Exceptional executive communication and presentation skills; experience preparing CEO/Board-ready materials.

  • Strong understanding of data governance, identity management, and digital transformation programs.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or MBA preferred. Certifications such as CISM, CRISC, CGEIT, CISSP, or PMP are a plus.

Why This Role

  • Direct partnership with the CIO overseeing digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity portfolios.

  • Opportunity to architect and operationalize a modern technology governance model in a growth-phase organization.

  • High visibility across C-suite and Board with influence over major transformation programs in Azure, Salesforce (AgentForce), data, and UX modernization.

  • Join a collaborative leadership team driving rapid scaling across multiple tech hubs.
