Job Description:
Our client is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to design, implement, maintain, and optimize the University''s enterprise network infrastructure. The Network Engineer will play a key role in ensuring reliable and secure connectivity across academic, administrative, residential, and campus environments.
This position will support wired and wireless networks, switches, routers, firewalls, VPN infrastructure, network monitoring, and network security. The successful candidate will work closely with systems administration, cybersecurity, applications, telecommunications, and service desk teams to maintain a highly available technology environment for students, faculty, staff, and University operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure.
- Administer routers, switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, VPNs, and related network technologies.
- Monitor network availability, performance, capacity, and utilization.
- Troubleshoot complex LAN, WAN, wireless, routing, switching, and connectivity issues.
- Configure and maintain VLANs, routing protocols, DHCP, DNS, NAT, ACLs, and network security controls.
- Support campus-wide wired and wireless network infrastructure.
- Assist with network architecture, capacity planning, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
- Implement network changes in accordance with established change-management procedures.
- Support firewall configuration, VPN connectivity, network segmentation, and access-control policies.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to identify and remediate network vulnerabilities and security risks.
- Utilize network monitoring and management tools to proactively identify outages and performance issues.
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, IP address documentation, and technical procedures.
- Participate in network upgrades, migrations, expansions, and technology refresh projects.
- Work with vendors and telecommunications providers to troubleshoot service issues and coordinate installations.
- Provide escalation support for complex network issues.
- Assist with disaster recovery, redundancy, and business continuity planning.
- Participate in an on-call or after-hours support rotation as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, Ethernet, VLANs, routing, switching, DHCP, DNS, NAT, and network security.
- Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless networks.
- Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Understanding of VPN technologies, access control, and network segmentation.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a higher education or large enterprise environment.
- Cisco networking experience.
- Cisco CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent networking certification.
- Experience with Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco, Aruba, or comparable enterprise networking/security technologies.
- Experience managing enterprise wireless environments.
- Knowledge of SD-WAN, network automation, or software-defined networking.
- Experience with cloud networking in Azure or AWS.
- Familiarity with network access control (NAC) solutions.
- Experience with network management platforms and centralized logging/SIEM technologies.

Success in This Role:
Success will be measured by the reliability, performance, security, and scalability of the University''s network infrastructure. The Network Engineer will be expected to proactively identify network risks, minimize service interruptions, resolve complex technical issues, and contribute to modernization initiatives that improve the technology experience across University''s campus.
Salary/Rate: $45-$50/HR (depends on experience level). This is a contract position with candidates expected to work 40 hours/ week. Upon conversion the salary: $110,000 - $125,000 (depends on experience level) + benefits.
