General Notes

The Ancillary Application Analyst supports the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of Epic software applications. This role collaborates with clinical and operational teams to analyze workflows, design system solutions, support application enhancements and upgrades, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the efficient operation of assigned applications.

The position works closely with IT professionals, clinical staff, operational stakeholders, and external vendors to provide ongoing application support and optimization across UT Medicine.

Purpose

The Ancillary Application Analyst supports the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of Epic software applications. This role collaborates with clinical and operational teams to analyze workflows, design system solutions, and ensure the efficient functioning of assigned applications.

The position reports to the Manager of Enterprise Clinical Applications & Informatics and works closely with other IT professionals, clinical staff, and external vendors. Peer roles include other application analysts, data analysts, and IT support specialists.

Responsibilities

Application Implementation and Support

  • Analyze clinical, business, and technical processes to develop system solutions.

  • Manage system upgrades and projects.

  • Provide technical and application assistance to clients and IT staff.

Workflow Analysis and Optimization

  • Conduct workflow analysis to identify areas for improvement.

  • Design and implement application solutions to meet department needs.

  • Collaborate with departments to prioritize development initiatives.

System Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Maintain and support installed application software.

  • Perform debugging, testing, and installation of software modules.

  • Ensure system changes follow established change management procedures.

Documentation and Training

  • Create and maintain documentation for all assigned applications.

  • Develop, plan, and execute testing for supported applications.

  • Work with IT educators to update training plans and documentation.

Customer and Vendor Liaison

  • Serve as a liaison between the IT Department, vendors, and clients.

  • Participate in system support both daily and during implementations.

  • Provide project management support as required.

Marginal or Periodic Functions

  • Serve as a mentor to junior analysts and supervise work efforts as directed by the manager.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation schedule, providing 24x7 client support as necessary.

  • Travel occasionally to other offices for user needs, training classes, implementations, and conferences.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Technical Expertise

  • Analyze and modify software applications.

  • Debug complex issues, design robust solutions, and ensure system integrity.

Project Management

  • Manage system upgrades and large projects.

  • Develop timelines, coordinate resources, and meet deadlines.

Workflow Analysis

  • Conduct workflow analysis and recommend solutions.

  • Identify inefficiencies, collaborate with stakeholders, and implement improvements.

Communication

  • Serve as a liaison between IT, vendors, and clients.

  • Facilitate meetings, provide clear updates, and resolve conflicts.

Documentation

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation.

  • Write clear instructions, update manuals, and ensure accessibility.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Minimum of two years of experience in application support or information technology.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master?s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Minimum of four years of experience in healthcare IT or Epic systems.

Licenses/Registrations/Certifications

Required

  • Epic certification in relevant modules.

Preferred

  • Additional IT certifications such as PMP or ITIL.

Salary Range

$80,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • Standard office equipment.

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard.

  • May be exposed to occupational hazards such as communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications, and disoriented or combative patients, or others.
