Major Duties:- Promote awareness of security issues among management and ensuring sound security principles are reflected in organizations visions and goals
- Oversee personnel responsible for the identification, detection, protection of security events to determine impact and implementing corrective actions
- Lead the implementation of security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities; e.g., intrusion detection or access authentication programs
- Identify need for changes based on new security technologies or threats
- Assure implementation of higher level security requirements such as those resulting from laws, regulation, or Presidential directives
- Oversee the planning and coordination of agency wide implementation of Governmentwide IT security defense strategies to ensure protection of the IT infrastructure

Physical Demands:The work is
sedentary. Some work may require walking and standing in conjunction with travel and to attendance at meetings and conferences away from the work site.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical computer operations environment. Rooms are well-lighted, air-conditioned office spaces with moderate noise from common office equipment. Computer equipment on the operations floor involves the use of high voltage electricity.

Basic Requirements:Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate
For all positions, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.

ANDSpecialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade
GS-14 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
- Experience working with system and application security threats and vulnerabilities (e.g., buffer overflow, mobile code, cross-site scripting, Procedural Language/Structured Query Language [PL/SQL] and injections, race conditions, covert channel, replay, return-oriented attacks, malicious code).
- Experience in industry technologies and identifying potential cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
- Experience developing policy, plans, and strategy in compliance with laws, regulations, policies and standards in support of organizational cyber activities; handling technology, management, and leadership issues related to organization processes and problem solving.
