Job Details

Position Overview: We are seeking a Design Engineer to support the design and development of building automation and mechanical system solutions for commercial and industrial projects. This role can be tailored toward candidates with strengths in HVAC mechanical system design, BAS/DDC controls design, or individuals with experience spanning both disciplines.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys technical problem solving, system integration, and collaborating with project teams to develop smart, efficient building solutions. The role is based out of our Kansas City office with minimal travel required.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop HVAC mechanical systems and/or building automation control systems for commercial and industrial facilities
  • Create control drawings, submittals, sequences of operation, system architecture layouts, and design documentation
  • Support BAS/DDC system design including controllers, field devices, networking, and integration strategies
  • Coordinate with project managers, field technicians, contractors, engineers, and clients throughout project lifecycle
  • Review project specifications, mechanical plans, and control requirements
  • Assist with equipment selection, controls integration, and energy-efficient system strategies
  • Support commissioning efforts and technical troubleshooting as needed
  • Ensure designs meet project requirements, industry standards, and customer expectations

Qualifications
  • Experience with HVAC mechanical design, Building Automation Systems (BAS/DDC), or both
  • Understanding of commercial HVAC systems, controls integration, and mechanical equipment operation
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, control schematics, and construction documents
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, or related design software preferred
  • Familiarity with BAS platforms, controls sequences, and system networking is a plus
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
