A leading eCommerce brand headquartered in Chicago is hiring an Engineering Manager for their team. This is a chance to step into a highly visible engineering leadership role at a large, stable enterprise that operates at massive scale, supports millions of customers, and is investing heavily in cloud-native platforms that sit at the center of its digital ecosystem. You'll be leading work that directly impacts how customer data is unified and trusted across every channel - critical infrastructure that many other teams depend on.
This role leads an eight-person, full-stack engineering team responsible for a business-critical customer data platform that serves as the source of truth for customer profiles and integrates with numerous downstream systems. You'll partner closely with product, architecture, security, SRE, and design to deliver reliable, observable, high-quality services, while holding accountability for execution, technical standards, and team health. Successful candidates bring a few years of people management experience in a product environment, strong architectural judgment, and comfort guiding teams working with Java, cloud-native microservices, relational databases, and modern engineering practices like TDD and trunk-based development. You don't need to code day-to-day, but you must be technically credible and able to review designs, challenge decisions, and coach engineers.
This is an ideal role for a growth-minded engineering leader who enjoys developing people, owning critical systems, and balancing long-term platform thinking with day-to-day delivery. If you're motivated by building foundational systems, influencing architecture at scale, and helping a legacy-forward company continue its evolution into a modern product-driven organization, this role offers both stability and real technical challenge.
