Primary Purpose:

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Transmission Section Engineer of PHI T&S Engineering Development provides technical leadership in the planning, and design of projects involving Exelon's utility infrastructure including the underground and overhead transmission, and related systems. This role involves mentoring junior engineers and includes strategic planning, leading complex engineering studies, and ensuring engineering excellence across projects and operations within the section. Champions cross-functional collaboration and continuous improvement across engineering operations. Work can include Directing engineering studies and contributes to performance evaluations across the section / segment of responsibility, Setting priorities for safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. Approving budgets, work packages, and technical specifications. Leading cross-functional coordination and external partnerships. Supervising field activities and ensuring resolution of complex issues May be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies

Primary Duties:

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Leads highly technical consultation and training through OJT/OJE (may include some classroom instruction as well) on highly complex and unique technical areas requiring the application of advanced engineering principles and may require advanced knowledge of complex analog and digital field test equipment.
  • Leads the work activities of project teams and others on the implementation of large specialized technical projects and/or programs in order to develop studies, proposals, commissioning plans to support safely energizing and placing major utility and customer systems and equipment on system.
  • Performs assignments while acting independently, and may lead multi-discipline teams, may include providing direct oversight of contractors
  • Participate in department/project management planning, and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results.
  • Provides detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to other
  • May participate in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in area of company interest. Serves as an expert in specialized areas
  • Acts as an expert witness and provide expert opinions for internal committees or as required
Job Scope:

JOB SCOPE

  • Highly influential on strategic management decisions that can have a major impact on the company.
  • Support/Lead employees and or contractors in the execution of plans developed to initially energize utility or customer equipment/systems and placed On System.
  • Set directions for the organization in regard to technical issues.
  • Apply technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction
  • Leads or supports feasibility studies, response to PJM requests, phase 0 and phase 1 engineering projects and special technical oriented strategic projects.
Minimum Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline with at least 7 years of professional engineering experience. (1) (3) (See Note)
  • Completed Assignments and Projects showing evidence of:
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
  • Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles (2).
  • Advanced knowledge of latest technologies necessary to perform a variety of specialized unique or complex assignments for various installation types of services.
  • *Note: there are a limited number of personnel available in the industry with the required knowledge, ability and experience. (1) Master's degree in Engineering reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year. (2) License must be issued by the state in which you are practicing. (3) PE License reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year.
  • Note: Items (1) and (3) are mutually inclusive, whereby the maximum experience requirement reduction is one (1) year (e.g., in the case of an employee with both a master's degree in Engineering AND a PE license, the minimum experience requirement would be reduced by one (1) year.
Preferred Qualifications:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years or more of OH and UG transmission design experience
  • Graduate degree (1) or Graduate level work in Engineering, Business Administration or Project Management Certification
  • Possess Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification and/or Professional Engineer license (2) (3)
  • 1-3 years of professional supervisory experience and/or demonstrated ability to lead the work activity of others.
  • Strong written and oral communication/presentation skills, report generation & technical writing skills
  • Industry expert who participates or leads industry committees or working groups or has published technical documents.
  • Advanced experience in utility infrastructure, such as system analysis, planning, design coordination, standards development, or project execution.
  • A working knowledge of analysis software packages such as CYMDIST, PSS\E, Python, PLS-CAD, Pole Foreman, Power BI, or similar.
