Position Overview
The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is seeking a highly motivated AI Developer to support the delivery and implementation of artificial intelligence solutions across the agency. This role is focused on turning AI concepts into practical, production-ready applications that improve operations, enhance customer experience, and drive innovation across multiple divisions.
The ideal candidate will be hands-on, execution-focused, and capable of working across teams to identify, develop, and deploy AI use cases in a government environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design, development, and deployment of AI-driven solutions across DelDOT divisions.
Translate business needs into functional AI applications, ensuring successful project delivery and measurable outcomes.
Collaborate with stakeholders across the agency to identify high-impact AI use cases.
Help lead and actively contribute to the DelDOT AI Working Committee, facilitating discussions, gathering requirements, and guiding implementation strategies.
Build, test, and maintain AI models and systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
Integrate AI solutions into existing systems and workflows.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship on AI capabilities and best practices.
Support ongoing AI initiatives, including occasional assistance with DelDOT’s DMV chatbot (“Della”), particularly during extended Wednesday hours as needed.
Stay current with emerging AI technologies and recommend new tools or platforms as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
Experience developing and deploying AI/ML solutions in production environments.
Strong understanding of cloud platforms, particularly Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.
Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new platforms and technologies.
Experience working in cross-functional teams and delivering projects end-to-end.
Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on practical implementation and delivery.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with additional programming languages such as .NET, Java, C#, or similar.
Familiarity with public sector or government environments.
Experience working with AI governance, ethics, or policy frameworks.
Knowledge of chatbot development, natural language processing (NLP), or automation tools.
Work Environment & Benefits
Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
Occasional extended hours on Wednesdays may be required for system support.
