Description: We are seeking a
Senior Avionics Engineer to join a rapidly growing engineering team developing flight-critical electronics for advanced air and missile platforms. In this role, you will design, integrate, and verify high-reliability avionics and embedded systems, working closely with cross-functional teams across hardware, software, firmware, mechanical, and test engineering.
This position supports new system development, active deployments, and customer-operated hardware in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate thrives in hands-on design work, system integration, and troubleshooting across both electrical and software boundaries.
Responsibilities- Own full-cycle PCB design, including requirements gathering, schematic design, component selection, layout oversight or execution, bring-up, testing, debugging, and system integration
- Perform microcontroller bring-up and design, ensuring reliable integration within avionics and embedded systems
- Troubleshoot complex issues spanning electrical hardware and embedded software using lab equipment and basic software debugging tools
- Design and integrate power management systems, including power regulation, distribution, and protection
- Develop avionics payloads and subsystems, including sensors, payload interfaces, power systems, and networking
- Create system interconnect diagrams and define wire harnesses connecting electronic equipment within subsystems
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, and test engineers to deliver mission-critical products
- Participate in and lead peer-level and cross-disciplinary design reviews
- Support development, deployment, and sustainment of fielded hardware
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
- 8+ years of experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex electronic systems
- Experience performing power system and electrical loading analysis, simulation, and validation
- Strong hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, electronic loads, logic/spectrum analyzers)
- Familiarity with thermal and EMI testing and basic embedded software debugging tools
- Experience with common electrical and communication interfaces (CAN, I2C, SPI, Ethernet, RS-232/422, RS-485, USB)
- Hands-on experience with microcontrollers, including bring-up and early-stage design
- Strong knowledge of analog and digital electronics and mixed-signal circuit design
- Experience designing multi-layer mixed-signal PCBs, including stack-up definition, impedance control, grounding strategies, and filtering
- Understanding of low- and high-voltage power electronics and control systems, including harnessing, wire selection, and connectorization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with high-end consumer, aerospace, or military embedded systems
- Experience with battery-based and AC power systems
- Ability to develop low-level firmware for system bring-up and test
- Background supporting defense, missile, or aerospace programs
- Understanding of environmental effects such as temperature and vibration on electronic designs
