Skillset / Experience:
Role Overview: CMDB / CSDM Data Steward
- The CMDB / CSDM Data Steward is responsible for governing the quality, structure, and integrity of the ServiceNow Service Data Fabric. This role ensures that service data is accurate, complete, compliant, and usable for automation, service visibility, and outcome measurement.
- Unlike development or architecture roles, the Data Steward focuses exclusively on data correctness and lifecycle discipline. This role is essential to enabling Service-Aware transformation, as automation, analytics, and AIOps are only as effective as the underlying data model.
Strategic Purpose:
- The Data Steward operates at the foundation of the Service-Aware operating model. This role ensures that the Common Service Data Model is not aspirational, but enforced consistently across the enterprise.
- By maintaining high-confidence data through continuous governance, reconciliation discipline, and lifecycle alignment, the Data Steward enables reliable service visibility, automation, and decision-making at scale.
Key Responsibilities:
CSDM Enforcement & Lifecycle Governance
- Implement and enforce Common Service Data Model (CSDM 5.0) standards
- Align CIs and relationships to the appropriate "Crawl, Walk, Run, Fly” lifecycle stages
- Prevent data model drift through continuous validation and remediation
Data Hygiene & Quality Management
- Monitor and improve CMDB Health Dashboard metrics
- Execute data scoring and service hygiene campaigns
- Identify and remediate stale, orphaned, and duplicate records
Identification & Reconciliation Management
- Configure and tune Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) rules
- Ensure data from Discovery, SCCM, monitoring, and third-party sources reconciles correctly
- Prevent CI duplication and data collisions in large-scale environments
Data Certification & Governance Automation
- Run Data Certification schedules with CI and service owners
- Validate CI accuracy and ownership
- Support governance automation goals through repeatable certification processes
Foundation Data Management
- Govern critical foundation data including Locations, Groups, Users, and reference tables
- Ensure foundational data integrity supports the broader Service Data Fabric
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience managing CMDBs in large-scale ServiceNow environments
- Deep understanding of CSDM 5.0 and service lifecycle modeling
- Hands-on experience with CMDB Health Dashboard, IRE, and Data Certification
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and data quality
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting Service-Aware or service-centric operating models
Background in highly regulated or complex enterprise environments
Familiarity with Discovery, SCCM, and monitoring tool integrations
ServiceNow CMDB or CSDM-related certifications
Measures of Success
- Sustained improvement in CMDB health and data confidence scores
- Reduction in duplicate, orphaned, and stale CIs
- Accurate lifecycle alignment of services and configuration items
